Engineering Manager Jobs in Pennsylvania: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a engineering manager in Pennsylvania?
Most engineering managers in Pennsylvania move into the role after building several years of hands-on engineering experience followed by a step into team or project leadership. A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline is the standard foundation, and a Professional Engineer license issued by the Pennsylvania State Registration Board for Professional Engineers, Land Surveyors and Geologists strengthens candidacy in regulated industries like infrastructure, defense, and energy. An advanced degree or PMP certification can accelerate the path in larger organizations.
Which companies hire engineering managers in Pennsylvania?
Employers hiring engineering managers in Pennsylvania right now include PNC Financial Services, Amphenol, and Thermo Fisher Scientific, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. Pennsylvania's concentration of defense contractors, pharmaceutical manufacturers, and industrial technology firms means consistent demand for engineering managers who can lead both technical staff and complex operational programs.
Which Pennsylvania cities have the most engineering manager jobs?
Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Yocumtown have the most engineering manager openings in Pennsylvania. Philadelphia drives volume through its pharmaceutical, life sciences, and technology consulting sectors, while Pittsburgh's strength in robotics, steel-adjacent industries, and university-linked tech firms generates steady demand, and the Lehigh Valley supports openings tied to its dense base of manufacturing and logistics operations.
Are there remote engineering manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
Yes, but they're less common than in purely digital fields because engineering managers in Pennsylvania frequently oversee plant floors, laboratory teams, or hardware development cycles that require on-site presence. About 45% of engineering manager openings tied to Pennsylvania are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, and those positions tend to concentrate in software engineering management and IT infrastructure leadership roles where the work is largely deliverable-based.
How can I get hired as a engineering manager in Pennsylvania with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a lead engineer or senior individual contributor role first, then volunteering for project ownership or mentorship responsibilities that demonstrate management readiness. Large Pennsylvania employers in manufacturing and defense, including facilities run by Lockheed Martin and Siemens, often hire associate or staff engineers through structured rotational programs that build toward management. Earning a Professional Engineer license or a PMP certification signals readiness and gives early-career candidates a concrete edge when applying for first-time manager openings.
Where can I find and apply to engineering manager jobs in Pennsylvania?
You can find and apply to engineering manager jobs in Pennsylvania on Migrate Mate, which lists current openings across the state. Search the available roles, find the ones that fit your background and location, and apply directly to the employers posting them.
