Systems Engineer Jobs in Chantilly: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a systems engineer job in Chantilly?
Chantilly's market is dominated by defense contractors and intelligence community support firms clustered along Route 28 and in Westfields, so targeting employers with DoD or IC contracts gives you the clearest path in. A security clearance, even at the Secret level, meaningfully narrows the competition. Familiarity with MBSE methodologies, systems integration on government programs, and experience with federal acquisition environments will set your application apart from generalist candidates.
Which companies hire systems engineers in Chantilly?
Chantilly systems engineer roles are posted by SAIC, KBR, and Leidos and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Chantilly's employer base skews heavily toward large prime contractors and specialized defense technology firms serving federal agencies in the National Capital Region.
Are there remote systems engineer jobs in Chantilly?
Yes, though with limits: systems engineer roles tied to classified programs or hands-on hardware integration in Chantilly are almost always on-site, while modeling, analysis, and documentation-heavy positions can run hybrid. About 19% of systems engineer openings tied to Chantilly are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, concentrated in software-defined systems and enterprise architecture work rather than cleared lab or facility roles.
How can I get a systems engineer job in Chantilly with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Chantilly is landing a junior systems engineer or systems analyst role with a mid-tier defense contractor that has active DoD task orders and a history of training early-career hires. Pursuing a Secret clearance eligibility before you apply is the single biggest edge in this market. Internships with Chantilly-area prime contractors or VA community college pathways into federal IT support roles also create an on-ramp to full systems engineer positions.
