Tax Professional Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax professional in Utah?
The most recognized path is earning a CPA license through the Utah Division of Professional Licensing, which requires a bachelor's degree with qualifying accounting credits, passing all four sections of the Uniform CPA Exam, and completing supervised experience hours. Candidates who want to prepare returns without full CPA licensure can register as a tax preparer through the IRS Annual Filing Season Program. An Enrolled Agent designation, earned by passing the IRS Special Enrollment Examination, is also widely accepted by Utah employers.
How much do tax professionals make in Utah?
Tax professionals in Utah earn a median of about $66,720 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $38,430 for the lowest 10% to over $102,840 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax professionals in Utah?
Utah tax professional roles are posted by H&R Block and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's blend of national accounting firm offices, large corporate headquarters, and a fast-growing technology sector creates consistent year-round demand across public accounting and in-house tax roles.
Which Utah cities have the most tax professional jobs?
Roy, Lehi, and Moab hold the largest share of tax professional openings in Utah. Salt Lake City drives the majority of postings as the state's financial and corporate hub, while Provo benefits from the concentration of technology companies and university-affiliated employers in Utah County, and Ogden draws hiring from manufacturing firms and regional accounting practices in the northern corridor.
How can I get hired as a tax professional in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry point is an associate or staff tax role at one of the Big Four or regional firms with Utah offices, such as Deloitte or Eide Bailly, which run structured new-graduate programs each recruiting season. Community income tax programs and VITA sites run through Utah nonprofits and community colleges offer supervised preparation experience that strengthens a resume before a first professional role. Candidates transitioning from bookkeeping, payroll, or accounts payable roles are frequently considered for tax associate positions, especially if they hold or are actively pursuing an EA designation or CPA exam credits.
Where can I find and apply to tax professional jobs in Utah?
