Job Overview
We're a growing, tech-forward firm that runs on systems, not chaos, and we're looking for an experienced tax manager who can own work from start to finish. Not another preparer who needs everything reviewed. Someone we can hand a client to and trust it's handled.
You won’t report up through layers of review; you’ll manage outcomes. You'll have direct access to firm leadership and a strong team behind you, including bookkeeping and prep support, so you can focus on higher-level returns, review, planning, and getting work out the door on time. If you're tired of the traditional firm model- four layers of review, billing by the hour, partners who never talk to clients- you'll like it here.
Responsibilities
What you'll own
- Prepare and review business and individual returns, including complex and multi-state work
- Manage your engagement pipeline, deadlines, and team capacity proactively; identify bottlenecks early and communicate before something becomes a fire.
- Handle IRS notices and resolution cleanly and proactively
- Proactive tax planning and strategy for clients (R&D, cost seg, PTE, entity structure, and the like)
- Spot process improvements and make them; we want your judgment, not just your hours
- Lead, coach, and develop tax preparers. Delegate effectively, provide clear review notes, and help the team become stronger and more independent.
Requirements
You're a fit if you
- Have 5+ years in tax (7+ preferred) and can work independently from day one
- CPA required with real planning and multi-state experience
- Know Lacerte, QuickBooks, and general-ledger accounting
- Have IRS resolution experience
- Communicate proactively with clients, staff, and leadership.
- Are a self-managed adult who pushes us, not the other way around
Technology Stack
- Tax Software: Lacerte
- Practice Management: Canopy

We pay for what you produce and bring, not hours in a seat.

Tax Manager Jobs in Utah: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax manager in Utah?
The concrete path in Utah starts with earning a CPA license through the Utah Division of Occupational and Professional Licensing, which requires passing the Uniform CPA Examination and meeting Utah's education and experience requirements. Most candidates complete a bachelor's degree in accounting, gain several years in public accounting or a corporate tax department, and earn their CPA before advancing to a manager title. Some employers also value an advanced degree such as a Master of Taxation or an LLM in taxation for senior roles.
How much do tax managers make in Utah?
Tax managers in Utah earn a median of about $79,990 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $48,770 for the lowest 10% to over $131,590 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax managers in Utah?
Utah tax manager roles are posted by Tanner, Eide Bailly, and Richey May & Co., LLP and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Utah's mix of technology company headquarters, financial services operations, and large healthcare systems creates steady demand across both public accounting firms and corporate in-house tax departments.
Which Utah cities have the most tax manager jobs?
Salt Lake City, Lehi, and Utah account for the largest share of tax manager openings in Utah. Salt Lake City anchors demand as the state's financial and corporate headquarters hub, while Provo's dense concentration of technology firms and Ogden's manufacturing and logistics base contribute meaningful openings outside the capital metro.
Are there remote tax manager jobs in Utah?
Yes, and more than most fields, because tax work is largely analytical and document-driven rather than tied to a physical site. About 75% of tax manager openings tied to Utah are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how broadly companies have accepted distributed tax teams. Federal and multi-state compliance work in particular tends to translate well to fully remote arrangements.
How can I get hired as a tax manager in Utah with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is landing a staff or senior tax associate role at one of Utah's Big Four or regional CPA firm offices, such as Deloitte, KPMG, or Tanner LLC, and progressing internally. Large corporate employers like Goldman Sachs and Intermountain Health also bring in candidates from staff-level roles for internal development. Sitting for the CPA exam while gaining your first years of experience is the clearest differentiator, and a focus on corporate income tax or state and local tax compliance helps align your skills with Utah's highest-volume openings.
Where can I find and apply to tax manager jobs in Utah?
You can find and apply to tax manager jobs in Utah on Migrate Mate, which lists current Utah openings. Search the roles available, find the ones that match your background and goals, and apply directly to the positions that fit.
