Tax Manager Jobs in Washington: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a tax manager in Washington?
Most Washington employers require an active CPA license, issued or recognized by the Washington State Board of Accountancy, which administers the Uniform CPA Examination through NASBA. A bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field is the standard entry point, though many employers prefer a Master's in Taxation or an MSA. Candidates typically build five or more years in public accounting or a corporate tax department before moving into a manager role.
How much do tax managers make in Washington?
Tax managers in Washington earn a median of about $96,550 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $66,330 for the lowest 10% to over $152,310 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire tax managers in Washington?
Employers hiring tax managers in Washington right now include BDO, Amazon, and Andersen, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of September 2026. Washington's concentration of multinational technology and aerospace companies means many openings require international tax or transfer pricing experience alongside core compliance skills.
Which Washington cities have the most tax manager jobs?
Seattle, Spokane, and Bellevue have the most tax manager openings in Washington. Seattle's dense cluster of corporate headquarters and large regional accounting firms drives the majority of postings, while Bellevue and Redmond reflect the tax team footprints of major technology employers based on the Eastside who maintain substantial in-house finance and tax functions.
Are there remote tax manager jobs in Washington?
Yes, and more than most fields. About 39% of tax manager openings tied to Washington are remote or hybrid as of September 2026, reflecting how well analytical and compliance-focused work translates to distributed teams. Tax provision work, federal compliance review, and research-intensive projects tend to be the most fully remote, while roles involving state audits or direct client interaction are more likely to require in-person presence.
How can I get hired as a tax manager in Washington with little or no experience?
The most realistic path is to start in a staff or senior associate tax role at one of Washington's large public accounting firms, where structured training programs build the compliance and provision skills employers expect at the manager level. Large corporate tax departments at Washington-based technology and aerospace companies occasionally hire associates from public accounting or from adjacent roles like financial analyst or accounting manager. Sitting for the CPA exam while working in a staff role significantly accelerates advancement.
Where can I find and apply to tax manager jobs in Washington?
