Entry Level Tax Specialist Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level tax specialist job?
Employers hiring at this level typically look for a degree in accounting, finance, or a related field, along with any internship experience or coursework in tax preparation, federal and state compliance, or accounting software like QuickBooks or Thomson Reuters. Certifications such as the Enrolled Agent credential or progress toward the CPA exam give candidates a clear edge, and familiarity with tax filing software signals practical readiness from day one.
Which companies hire entry level tax specialists?
Companies hiring entry level tax specialists right now include Paylocity, CBIZ, and Kestra Financial, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Hiring at this level comes from a wide range of employers, including public accounting firms, corporate tax departments, financial services companies, and regional CPA practices that regularly onboard junior staff during tax season and beyond.
Are there remote entry level tax specialist jobs?
Yes, though most entry level roles still favor in-office or hybrid arrangements given the hands-on training involved. About 20% of entry level tax specialist openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, so candidates open to on-site work will find a larger pool of opportunities, particularly at firms that prioritize in-person mentorship for junior hires.
Are these new grad tax specialist jobs?
Yes, many of these listings are new grad friendly and include junior and recent graduate roles that welcome candidates with zero to two years of experience, relevant internships, or a strong academic record in accounting or finance. A new grad posting typically does not require prior full-time tax experience and may accept a portfolio of coursework, practicum projects, or seasonal tax prep work in place of formal employment history.
Which industries hire the most entry level tax specialists?
Entry Level tax specialist roles concentrate in Accounting & Auditing, Insurance, and Government & Public Sector, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors drive consistent hiring at the entry level because they handle complex tax compliance needs year-round, creating steady demand for junior specialists who can support senior staff with return preparation, research, and regulatory filings.
