Technical Intern Jobs in Columbus: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a technical intern job in Columbus?
Target Columbus's densest hiring clusters: the tech and startup scene around the Short North and Arena District, large financial services and insurance firms headquartered downtown, and research-adjacent roles tied to the Ohio State University medical and engineering programs. Candidates who tailor applications to sector-specific tools, show project work or coursework output, and engage with Columbus tech meetups and university career fairs consistently stand out in this market.
Which companies hire technical interns in Columbus?
Columbus technical intern roles are posted by State of Ohio, Peak Retirement Planning, and Burns & McDonnell and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. The local market reflects Columbus's mix of legacy corporations in insurance and retail, a growing fintech cluster, and research-affiliated employers tied to Ohio State.
Are there remote technical intern jobs in Columbus?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the type of work: lab, hardware, and on-site operational roles are rarely remote, while software development, data analysis, and IT support internships are more commonly flexible. About 60% of technical intern openings tied to Columbus are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with hybrid arrangements most common among Columbus-based software and analytics employers.
How can I get a technical intern job in Columbus with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is applying to internship programs at Columbus's large anchor employers in insurance, healthcare, and retail technology, which routinely hire students with no prior industry experience. Ohio State and Columbus State Community College both have employer pipelines that place first-time interns locally. Building a GitHub portfolio or completing a relevant project, then applying directly through company career pages, gives early-career candidates a concrete edge over applications with no supporting work.
