Lead large, complex, cross-functional initiatives from discovery through delivery, including requirements definition, dependency management, risk mitigation, and phased execution plans.
Partner closely with engineering, product, data, and operations leaders to design scalable system architectures, APIs, and data models that meet reliability, performance, and security expectations.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
Extensive experience (typically 10+ years) in technical program management or related technical leadership roles, including ownership of multi-team or multi-service programs.
Proven track record leading complex, cross-functional software development initiatives involving system design, low-level design (LLD), API design, and data modeling.
Demonstrated ability to define program scope, drive execution across multiple engineering teams, manage technical dependencies, and deliver reliable, scalable services in production.
Strong technical aptitude, including the ability to understand distributed systems, data flows, and integration patterns, and to collaborate effectively with senior engineers and architects.
Preferred Qualifications:
Master's degree in a technical field and/or equivalent experience; 10–15 years in technical program management, including prior experience working closely with VP/SVP-level engineering leadership in a chief-of-staff or senior program management capacity, with a track record of designing and owning an organization's rhythm of business — business reviews, org health forums, and annual planning — at scale.
Experience engaging directly with senior and principal-level engineers on architecture and design decisions — reading technical proposals, participating in design reviews, and helping ensure the right decisions are reached, documented, and acted on in a timely way.
Proven ability to build and improve how a team operates — establishing review processes, running post-incident and correction-of-errors reviews, tracking corrective actions to closure, and fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement.
Experience using modern tools and technology to automate repetitive work — building workflows, lightweight tools, or process automations that reduce manual overhead — and a track record of staying current on what tools are available and proactively introducing relevant ones to the team.
Exceptional executive communication skills — able to translate complex technical and business situations into clear, concise narratives for senior leadership, focused on the decisions that need to be made and the actions that need to follow.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.

Technical Manager Jobs in Seattle: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a technical manager job in Seattle?
Seattle's strongest demand for technical managers sits in cloud infrastructure, enterprise software, and biotech, so candidates who can point to experience leading engineering or product teams in those sectors move fastest. South Lake Union and the Eastside corridor hold the heaviest concentration of open roles. What gives candidates an edge locally is hands-on experience with agile delivery at scale and a record of cross-functional collaboration with product and business stakeholders.
Which companies hire technical managers in Seattle?
Seattle technical manager roles are posted by Amazon, Amazon Web Services, and Blue Origin and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. The hiring mix includes global technology companies headquartered in the region alongside fast-growing startups and established healthcare and aerospace employers that maintain large engineering operations in and around the city.
Are there remote technical manager jobs in Seattle?
Yes, though availability depends heavily on the role type. Technical manager positions that are primarily strategic, involving planning, roadmap ownership, and stakeholder coordination, tend to be remote-friendly, while roles requiring on-site team oversight or lab and hardware environments are usually in-person. About 53% of technical manager openings tied to Seattle are remote or hybrid as of August 2026, with the strongest remote availability in software and cloud-focused companies based in South Lake Union and the Eastside.
How can I get a technical manager job in Seattle with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a technical lead or team lead role first, which several Seattle software and cloud employers use as a pipeline into formal management. Companies in Seattle's startup ecosystem, particularly those in South Lake Union, often promote strong individual contributors into first-time manager roles when they demonstrate ownership and cross-team communication. Building visibility through local tech meetups and industry groups can also surface opportunities before they are publicly posted.
Which industries hire the most technical managers in Seattle?
Seattle technical manager roles concentrate in Technology & Software, Retail, and E-Commerce & Online Marketplaces, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of August 2026. This reflects Seattle's position as a hub for major cloud computing platforms, a growing life sciences and medical device sector anchored around the University District and South Lake Union, and a longstanding aerospace and defense presence that generates steady demand for experienced technical leadership.
