Technical Team Lead Jobs in Texas: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a technical team lead in Texas?
Most technical team leads in Texas move up from individual contributor engineering roles after several years of hands-on development experience, not through a state-issued license or exam. Texas employers typically look for a bachelor's degree in computer science or engineering, a strong technical portfolio, and informal or formal leadership experience such as mentoring junior engineers, leading a project, or serving as a senior developer on a cross-functional team.
How much do technical team leads make in Texas?
Technical team leads in Texas earn a median of about $171,530 a year, based on May 2025 Bureau of Labor Statistics wage data, ranging from around $106,390 for the lowest 10% to over $277,160 for the top 10%. Pay rises with experience, specialty, and employer.
Which companies hire technical team leads in Texas?
Employers hiring technical team leads in Texas right now include Bastian Solutions, Cambium Assessment, and K&L GATES, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. Texas's concentration of enterprise tech headquarters, defense contractors, and large financial services firms creates steady, year-round demand for experienced technical leads across a wide range of specialties.
Which Texas cities have the most technical team lead jobs?
Austin, Farmers Branch, and Allen have the most technical team lead openings in Texas. Austin's density of software companies and tech headquarters drives the largest share of openings, while Dallas benefits from major corporate IT operations and financial services firms, and Houston's energy, aerospace, and healthcare sectors generate consistent demand for technical leads with domain-specific engineering backgrounds.
Are there remote technical team lead jobs in Texas?
Yes, and more than many leadership roles, since technical team leads in software and cloud environments often manage distributed engineering teams. About 20% of technical team lead openings tied to Texas are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, reflecting how common distributed engineering organizations have become. Roles in software development, DevOps, and cloud infrastructure tend to be the most remote-compatible, while embedded systems and hardware-adjacent lead positions usually require on-site presence.
How can I get hired as a technical team lead in Texas with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is moving into a team lead role from a senior individual contributor position at a Texas employer that promotes from within, such as large technology firms in Austin or enterprise IT departments in Dallas. Taking on a tech lead or staff engineer role, formally mentoring junior developers, or leading a project end-to-end builds the leadership record Texas hiring managers want. Earning a cloud certification from AWS or Azure and contributing to cross-team initiatives strengthens a promotion case significantly.
Where can I find and apply to technical team lead jobs in Texas?
