Therapeutic Recreation Specialist Jobs in Florida: Frequently Asked Questions
How do you become a therapeutic recreation specialist in Florida?
You become a therapeutic recreation specialist in Florida by earning a bachelor's degree in therapeutic recreation or a closely related field, then obtaining the Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist credential through the National Council for Therapeutic Recreation Certification. Florida does not issue a separate state license for this role, but most Florida employers require or strongly prefer the NCTRC credential as the recognized professional standard before hiring.
Which companies hire therapeutic recreation specialists in Florida?
Employers hiring therapeutic recreation specialists in Florida right now include Devereux, Chrysalis Health, and ACTS, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Florida's high concentration of rehabilitation hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and behavioral health programs keeps demand from large regional and national healthcare systems consistently active.
Which Florida cities have the most therapeutic recreation specialist jobs?
West Palm Beach, Tampa, and Bartow have the most therapeutic recreation specialist openings in Florida. Orlando and Tampa drive volume through their large hospital networks and rehabilitation campuses, while Miami's density of long-term care and behavioral health facilities contributes steadily to the listing count across the metro.
Are there remote therapeutic recreation specialist jobs in Florida?
Yes, but they're rare. Therapeutic recreation is a hands-on clinical role delivered in person with patients, so the vast majority of Florida positions require on-site presence. About 17% of therapeutic recreation specialist openings tied to Florida are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, and those positions tend to be program coordination, telehealth consultation, or administrative roles rather than direct patient care.
How can I get hired as a therapeutic recreation specialist in Florida with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path is an internship or clinical placement completed at a Florida facility during your degree program, which frequently converts to a hire. Large Florida rehabilitation networks such as Encompass Health and AdventHealth regularly bring on new graduates into associate or activity aide roles that build toward full specialist positions. Completing your NCTRC eligibility requirements and holding a current CPR certification before applying gives you a clear edge over candidates who are still working toward credentialing.
Where can I find and apply to therapeutic recreation specialist jobs in Florida?
You can find and apply to therapeutic recreation specialist jobs in Florida on Migrate Mate, which lists current Florida openings across hospital systems, rehabilitation centers, skilled nursing facilities, and behavioral health programs. Search the roles that match your experience and specialty area, then apply directly to the ones that fit your background.
