Therapist Jobs in Detroit: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get a therapist job in Detroit?
Detroit's strongest hiring comes from community mental health agencies, federally qualified health centers, and hospital-affiliated behavioral health departments, particularly in Midtown and New Center. Candidates with experience in trauma-informed care, substance use disorder treatment, or child and adolescent therapy are in high demand locally. A Michigan Limited License or full LLP or LMSW credential helps you clear employer filters faster, and familiarity with Medicaid billing practices gives you a concrete edge in Detroit's largely publicly funded system.
Which companies hire therapists in Detroit?
Detroit therapist roles are posted by Tenet Healthcare, Henry Ford Health, and Renewal Rehab and others right now, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Detroit's employer mix leans heavily toward nonprofit community health organizations, Detroit Medical Center-affiliated outpatient programs, and county-contracted behavioral health providers serving Wayne County residents.
Are there remote therapist jobs in Detroit?
Yes, though remote availability is more limited for therapists than for purely desk-based roles, since many positions involve in-person clinical sessions. About 26% of therapist openings tied to Detroit are remote or hybrid as of July 2026, with teletherapy options most common in outpatient counseling and employee assistance program roles serving Detroit-area clients.
How can I get a therapist job in Detroit with little or no experience?
The most realistic entry path in Detroit is securing a limited-licensed associate role at a community mental health agency or nonprofit clinic that provides clinical supervision toward full licensure. Detroit-area employers like Henry Ford Health behavioral health programs and Wayne County-contracted agencies regularly hire associate-level therapists for case management and group therapy support roles. Volunteering with Detroit crisis intervention programs or completing a field placement at a Midtown or Southwest Detroit clinic builds the local network that leads to paid offers.
Which industries hire the most therapists in Detroit?
Most therapist openings in Detroit sit in Healthcare & Medical Services, per current listings on Migrate Mate as of July 2026. Detroit's concentration of publicly funded health systems, addiction treatment infrastructure rebuilt after the opioid crisis, and school-based mental health contracts with Detroit Public Schools Community District keeps those sectors consistently active.
