Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Data Infrastructure Engineer
Map your credentials to Computer Systems Analyst
TN approval for data infrastructure work hinges on fitting the Computer Systems Analyst category. Gather transcripts showing a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, or engineering, and verify your job duties align with systems analysis rather than general IT support.
Target employers with recent visa filing experience
Search Migrate Mate to identify companies with recent visa filings for Data Infrastructure Engineer roles. Employers already experienced with visa sponsorship processes tend to move faster and encounter fewer delays during the hiring and offer stage.
Clarify cloud and pipeline duties before the offer letter
Your offer letter must describe duties that read as systems analysis, not general DevOps or server administration. Before signing, confirm your employer will specify data pipeline design, infrastructure architecture, or distributed systems analysis in the letter, since CBP officers review this language directly.
Prepare for the Canadian border TN process specifically
Canadian citizens apply for TN status at a port of entry or preclearance location and receive a decision the same day. Bring your original offer letter, degree transcripts, and any professional certifications. CBP can request additional documentation, so have digital backups accessible on your device.
Use Migrate Mate to find sponsors already set up for TN
Not every employer knows how to sponsor a TN visa, even for eligible roles. Use Migrate Mate to filter Data Infrastructure Engineer jobs by employers with recent visa filings, cutting out companies that may be unfamiliar with the sponsorship process. Employers experienced with work visa sponsorship are more likely to understand TN requirements and move forward smoothly.
Understand Mexican citizens face a consular appointment requirement
Mexican nationals cannot apply at the land border for TN status the way Canadian citizens can. You must schedule a nonimmigrant visa appointment at a U.S. consulate, submit the DS-160, and attend an interview. Factor four to eight weeks of consular processing into your start date negotiation with the employer.

Find Data Infrastructure Engineer JobsData Infrastructure Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Data Infrastructure Engineer role qualify for TN visa sponsorship?
Yes, if your duties center on systems analysis, architecture, or data pipeline design. TN eligibility for this role falls under the Computer Systems Analyst category defined in the USMCA. The offer letter must describe qualifying analytical duties. Roles focused purely on hardware maintenance or general IT support without a systems analysis component are less likely to qualify.
How does the TN visa compare to H-1B for Data Infrastructure Engineer positions?
The TN visa has no annual lottery, no cap for Canadian citizens, and can be obtained at the border on the same day for Canadians. H-1B requires entering a randomized lottery each spring with no guaranteed selection. For Mexican citizens, TN requires a consulate appointment, but still avoids the H-1B lottery entirely. TN is employer-specific and does not allow dual intent, so green card planning requires separate consideration.
What documentation does a Canadian professional need for TN entry as a Data Infrastructure Engineer?
You need an original offer letter from a U.S. employer describing your role as Computer Systems Analyst work, proof of Canadian citizenship, and academic credentials showing a qualifying degree. CBP officers review all three at the port of entry. Bring certified transcripts, not just a diploma, and include any professional certifications that reinforce your technical background in data infrastructure.
Where can I find Data Infrastructure Engineer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for TN visa job searches. You can filter roles by Canadian and Mexican citizenship eligibility and identify employers experienced with visa sponsorship. This matters because a general job search won't tell you which employers understand the TN visa process or have sponsored work visas before, and that knowledge gap causes most offer-stage delays.
Can a Data Infrastructure Engineer on TN status change employers mid-year?
Yes, but you must secure a new offer letter and, for Canadian citizens, be prepared to present documentation at the U.S. port of entry when starting with the new employer. Your TN status is tied to the sponsoring employer. The new employer will need to prepare a support letter for your TN application. There is no portability provision for TN the way H-1B has under AC21.
