TN Visa Driver Jobs
Driver roles don't appear on the standard TN visa occupation list, which means Canadian and Mexican professionals need to evaluate whether their specific driving position qualifies under a listed category before pursuing sponsorship. Logistics, transport management, or specialized commercial driving roles may qualify under adjacent TN classifications depending on credentials and job duties.

Verify your role fits a TN category
Driver is not a named TN visa occupation. Map your specific duties to a qualifying TN category before applying. Roles with supervisory, logistics coordination, or engineering components may qualify under adjacent classifications.
Gather credentials that prove specialty
Collect your commercial driver's license, any transportation management certifications, and official employment letters that detail job duties. TN officers assess whether your role genuinely falls within a listed professional category, so documentation of specialized functions matters.
Target employers with cross-border freight operations
Logistics companies operating Canada-U.S. or Mexico-U.S. supply chains are familiar with USMCA work authorization. These employers have existing compliance infrastructure and are more likely to support a TN filing for specialized transport roles.
Ask employers to confirm E-Verify enrollment early
Many large freight and logistics employers participate in E-Verify. Confirming enrollment before accepting an offer saves time. Employers who already run I-9 compliance processes are better prepared to handle TN documentation requirements.
Use Migrate Mate to find TN-sponsoring logistics employers
Search Migrate Mate to identify employers in trucking, freight, and transportation who have sponsored TN or H-1B visa workers before. This filters your job search to companies with proven work authorization experience, reducing the risk of an employer declining mid-process.
Prepare for port-of-entry filing as a Canadian
Canadian citizens can apply for TN status directly at a U.S. port of entry without a prior consular appointment. Bring your employer offer letter, credential documents, and supporting role description. CBP officers adjudicate on the spot, so clarity of documentation is essential.
Driver TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Driver job title qualify for a TN visa?
Driver is not listed as a qualifying TN occupation under USMCA. However, if your role involves specialized functions such as logistics coordination, fleet operations management, or a transportation-adjacent specialty tied to a recognized TN category, it may qualify under that classification instead. The job duties described in your employer's offer letter are what CBP or USCIS evaluates, not the job title alone.
How does the TN visa compare to the H-1B for Driver or logistics roles?
The H-1B requires employer sponsorship, a lottery entry, and USCIS petition approval, which can take many months. The TN visa has no lottery, no annual cap for Canadians, and can be approved at a port of entry the same day for eligible roles. The trade-off is that TN requires a qualifying professional occupation under USMCA, so roles that don't fit a listed category cannot use TN regardless of the applicant's credentials.
What documents does a Canadian Driver professional need for TN status?
You'll need a valid Canadian passport, a detailed employer offer letter specifying your job title, duties, salary, and employment period, and any credentials supporting your professional classification. If your role qualifies under a TN category that requires a degree or license, bring official transcripts or the relevant license. CBP reviews all of this at the port of entry when processing your TN application.
How can I find employers who will sponsor a TN visa for a Driver or transportation role?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to surface employers with TN and H-1B sponsorship history in the U.S. Searching by role and location lets you filter to companies in logistics, freight, and transportation that have already navigated work authorization for international hires, which significantly increases your chances of finding an employer ready to support a TN filing.
Can Mexican nationals use the TN visa for Driver or logistics roles?
Mexican citizens are eligible for TN status under USMCA, but unlike Canadians, they must apply through a U.S. consulate in Mexico and obtain a TN visa stamp before entering. Mexican TN applicants also face a numerical allocation, meaning availability is more limited. The same occupational qualification rules apply, so the role must fall within a listed TN professional category.
