It’s a wealth of resources—more than enough to help you build a compelling, high-quality show every single morning.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Anchor & Report: Present news with a superior on-air presence and the ability to ad-lib effectively.
- Create Content: Research, pitch, and write original stories that resonate with our local community.
- Reporting & Production: Gather information through interviews and field research; shoot, edit, and produce compelling reports for broadcast and all digital platforms.
- Collaborative Planning: Coordinate with producers and news managers to determine story priorities, emphasis, and formatting.
- Editorial Excellence: Write and review copy for accuracy, grammar, and style, ensuring all content meets high journalistic integrity and production standards.
- Digital Engagement: Write for web/eMedia platforms and actively interact with viewers via social media.
- General Duties: Maintain organized notes and news files, meet strict editorial deadlines, and perform special projects as assigned.

- Communication: Exceptional writing and oral skills with a sharp eye for editorial detail.
- Technical Proficiency: Comfortable with newsroom technology and standard office equipment.
- Reliability: A valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and the flexibility to meet tight deadlines.

Verify your credential meets TN requirements
The TN journalist category requires a degree or relevant credentials in broadcasting, journalism, or communications. A general arts degree without a media concentration can trigger scrutiny at the port of entry, so confirm your transcript reflects the qualifying field before applying.
Target local and regional broadcast stations first
Network affiliates and regional stations sponsor TN News Anchor roles more frequently than national outlets because they operate under tighter hiring timelines. Markets like Dallas, Houston, and Chicago have large Mexican and Canadian talent pipelines and established TN filing workflows.
Get your employer's support letter right
Your employer's TN support letter must name the specific job duties, your professional credentials, and the USMCA occupational category being claimed. A letter that omits your degree field or lists vague duties like 'media work' has caused Canadian applicants to be turned back at land ports.
Search for TN-ready roles using Migrate Mate
Use Migrate Mate to filter News Anchor job listings by employers with recent visa filings. That shortlist tells you which stations have experience sponsoring work visas and understand the USMCA category requirements, cutting your outreach time significantly.
Prepare for Mexican consular appointment early
Mexican citizens must schedule a nonimmigrant visa appointment before entering the U.S. on TN status. Consular wait times at Ciudad Juarez and Monterrey vary, so start your application as soon as your offer letter is finalized to avoid delays in your start date.
Clarify on-air versus off-camera scope with HR
Some stations offer hybrid roles mixing anchoring with producing or digital content work. Confirm that your TN petition covers your full job scope, because USCIS and CBP officers have scrutinized mixed-role descriptions that blur the journalist category boundaries.

Find News Anchor JobsNews Anchor TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a News Anchor role qualify for TN visa status under USMCA?
Yes. News Anchors qualify under the USMCA's journalist and broadcaster occupational category, which covers on-air presenting, reporting, and news production. Your employer's support letter must clearly connect your job duties to that category and confirm your degree is in a relevant field such as journalism, broadcasting, or communications.
How does TN compare to H-1B for News Anchor positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, making it far more predictable than the H-1B for News Anchor roles. Canadians can activate TN status at a port of entry on the day they start. The trade-off is that TN requires a specific USMCA occupational category match and does not allow dual immigrant intent, so long-term green card planning requires a separate strategy.
Where can I find News Anchor jobs that include TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lists News Anchor openings from employers with recent visa filings, so you can identify stations that have experience sponsoring work visas and may be open to the TN process. For Canadians, this means finding employers familiar with supporting applicants at the port of entry; for Mexicans, employers comfortable providing support letters for consulate applications. Starting with these employers can help you focus on roles where visa sponsorship experience exists.
Can I switch News Anchor employers while on TN status?
Yes, but you need a new TN authorization before you start with the new employer. Your TN status is tied to your current employer, so you can't simply transfer it. Canadians can apply at a land port of entry or pre-flight inspection with the new support letter, while Mexican citizens need a new consular appointment for a fresh TN visa stamp.
What happens if my News Anchor contract is renewed or extended?
TN status is granted in increments of up to three years and can be renewed indefinitely as long as you maintain a qualifying job offer. Canadians can renew at the border or through a USCIS petition, while Mexican citizens renew via a consular appointment. Renewals require updated employer documentation confirming the role continues to qualify and that your job duties remain aligned with TN eligibility requirements.
