Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Senior Mobile Developer
Map your credentials to Computer Systems Analyst
TN visa classification doesn't list 'mobile developer' by name. You'll need your degree transcript and offer letter to explicitly connect your work to systems analysis, software design, or application architecture, not just coding tasks.
Target employers experienced with visa sponsorship
Search for companies with recent visa filings in software or IT roles. An employer experienced with visa sponsorship will have streamlined internal processes for extending offers to qualified candidates, making the hiring path smoother for TN qualification.
Negotiate support letter timing into your offer
Your employer will need to prepare a support letter documenting your job offer and qualifications for TN visa processing. For Canadian citizens, you'll present this at the U.S. border or port of entry; for Mexican citizens, your employer submits it with your consulate application. Build at least two weeks into your start-date negotiation to account for consulate processing or border processing times, so approval delays don't push back your first day.
Use Migrate Mate to filter roles by TN sponsorship
Search Migrate Mate to find Senior Mobile Developer positions where employers have confirmed TN visa sponsorship, saving you the back-and-forth of asking recruiters who don't yet know their company's immigration policy.
Prepare for port-of-entry scrutiny as a Canadian
Canadian citizens can get TN status approved at the border, but CBP officers have full discretion. Bring a detailed offer letter describing your mobile development duties in systems-analyst language, not just a job title, to avoid a referral for secondary inspection.
Request a multi-year annotation if entering at the border
CBP can grant TN status for up to three years at a single entry. Ask your employer to specify the full three-year period in the support letter so you avoid an annual return trip for renewal as a Canadian applicant.
Senior Mobile Developer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Senior Mobile Developer role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, but the job title itself isn't listed in the USMCA. Your role must qualify under the Computer Systems Analyst category, which covers software engineers and application developers when the work involves systems design, analysis, or architecture. Your offer letter needs to frame your mobile development duties in those terms, not just describe writing Swift or Kotlin code.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Senior Mobile Developer positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start working as soon as CBP or a consulate approves your application, often within days. H-1B visa requires surviving a randomized lottery with roughly a 25% selection rate and waiting months for October 1 employment. Mexican TN applicants face a separate annual cap of 5,500 but still avoid the H-1B lottery entirely.
Can I switch employers mid-year on a TN visa as a mobile developer?
Yes, but your TN status is tied to your specific employer and role. If you change jobs, your new employer must support a fresh TN application before you start working for them. Canadians can handle this at a port of entry; Mexican citizens need a new consular appointment. Your previous TN becomes invalid on your last day with the original employer.
Where can I find Senior Mobile Developer jobs with confirmed TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. You can filter by TN visa sponsorship so you're only seeing roles where employers have indicated they'll support the process, rather than applying broadly and discovering midway through interviews that a company has never filed a TN petition before.
What documents does my employer need to prepare for my TN application as a mobile developer?
Your employer needs to provide a detailed support letter on company letterhead that states your job title, describes your duties in Computer Systems Analyst terms, confirms your professional credentials, specifies your salary, and states the intended duration of employment up to three years. For Canadian citizens, you'll present this support letter directly at the U.S. border or port of entry. For Mexican citizens, your employer's support letter will be submitted as part of your TN application at a U.S. consulate.
