Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Service Engineer
Match your degree to the engineering discipline
TN classification for Service Engineers requires a degree in a specific engineering field that directly corresponds to the role. A mechanical engineering degree supporting a software systems role won't satisfy CBP. Confirm the job description references your exact discipline before applying.
Request a TN support letter before accepting
Ask the hiring manager for a written employer support letter before you sign an offer. The letter must state your job title, duties, TN category, employment period, and salary. Missing or vague letters are the most common reason CBP denies entry at the border.
Target manufacturers with field service operations
Service Engineer roles at original equipment manufacturers and industrial automation companies sponsor TN visas far more routinely than general staffing firms. Search for openings at companies with U.S. field service divisions, where on-site equipment installation and client-facing technical support are core to the role.
Prepare for CBP questions about your scope of work
CBP officers at the port of entry assess whether your duties qualify under the Engineer TN category. Bring documentation showing your engineering tasks, not just your job title. A brief duty summary aligned to your degree field strengthens your case on the spot.
Use Migrate Mate to find employers already sponsoring TN visas
Filtering job postings by employer visa sponsorship experience saves weeks of outreach to companies unfamiliar with work visa processes. Migrate Mate surfaces Service Engineer roles at employers with recent visa filings, so you're applying where sponsorship infrastructure and expertise are already established.
Plan your Mexican TN consular appointment early
Mexican citizens must obtain TN status at a U.S. consulate, unlike Canadians who can apply at the border. Consular appointment availability varies significantly by location and season. Confirm your appointment timeline with your employer before committing to a start date.

Find Service Engineer JobsService Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does a Service Engineer role qualify for TN visa status?
Yes, if your duties fall within engineering practice and your degree aligns with the engineering discipline the role requires. CBP evaluates both the job description and your credentials at entry. Roles focused on equipment installation, system diagnostics, and technical troubleshooting typically qualify, provided the employer's support letter clearly ties your duties to an engineering field.
How does TN compare to H-1B for Service Engineer positions?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, so you can start as soon as you have a qualifying offer and your documents are in order. H-1B requires entering a random lottery with a roughly 25% selection rate and can take over a year from registration to work authorization. For Service Engineers who qualify under USMCA, TN is a faster and more predictable path.
Where can I find Service Engineer jobs that offer TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for Service Engineer roles at employers with recent visa filings, which removes the guesswork of cold-applying to companies unfamiliar with work visa sponsorship. Targeting employers experienced with visa processes significantly reduces the risk of an offer falling through due to HR uncertainty about supporting international hires.
Can I switch Service Engineer employers on a TN visa?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. When you change employers, you need a new TN authorization tied to the new job. Canadians can obtain this at any port of entry with updated employer documentation. Mexican citizens must return to a U.S. consulate. There is no grace period built into TN status, so coordinate your start date carefully.
What documents does a Service Engineer need for TN sponsorship?
You need a valid passport, a detailed employer support letter specifying your TN Engineer classification, a copy of your engineering degree, and any transcripts or credential evaluations that confirm your field of study. If your degree is from a non-U.S. or non-Canadian institution, a credential evaluation confirming equivalency to a U.S. bachelor's degree in engineering is strongly recommended.
