Get Access To All JobsTips for Finding TN Visa Sponsorship as a Mechanical Project Engineer
Align your credentials to USMCA Engineer requirements
Your degree must be in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. A general engineering technology degree may not satisfy TN requirements without additional documentation showing equivalency to a four-year mechanical engineering program.
Target employers with recent visa filing experience
Employers with recent visa filings for engineering roles already understand the visa sponsorship process and may be equipped to support TN status. Prioritize companies in manufacturing, energy, and infrastructure sectors where mechanical project work is ongoing.
Request a support letter that names TN Engineer explicitly
Your employer's offer letter must state the TN Engineer category, your specific role duties, and that you hold a qualifying degree. Vague letters referencing only 'professional services' are a common reason CBP officers request additional documentation at the port of entry.
Search TN-sponsored roles through Migrate Mate
Migrate Mate filters Mechanical Project Engineer jobs by employers already familiar with TN visa sponsorship, cutting out roles where you'd need to educate HR from scratch. Use it to identify active openings before initiating any employer conversations.
Prepare for project scope questions at the Canadian border
Canadian citizens applying for TN status at a land port of entry should be ready to explain the project lifecycle they will manage, not just their job title. CBP officers assess whether the role genuinely requires a degree-level mechanical engineer.
Confirm Mexican TN timelines before accepting an offer deadline
Mexican citizens must schedule a consular visa interview, which adds processing time compared to the Canadian border option. Consulates in Ciudad Juarez and Monterrey handle TN applications, but appointment availability varies, so factor this into your start date negotiation.

Find Mechanical Project Engineer JobsMechanical Project Engineer TN Visa: Frequently Asked Questions
Does Mechanical Project Engineer qualify for TN visa status?
Yes. Mechanical Project Engineers qualify under the TN Engineer category, provided your role requires and you hold at least a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related discipline. The job duties must reflect professional engineering work, such as project design, systems analysis, or mechanical systems oversight, not purely supervisory or administrative functions.
How does TN visa sponsorship for this role compare to H-1B?
TN has no annual lottery and no cap for Canadian citizens, meaning qualified Mechanical Project Engineers can start work without waiting for an October start date. H-1B requires lottery selection, a six-month lead time, and higher employer filing costs. TN is renewable indefinitely in three-year increments, making it a practical long-term option for engineers staying in the same role or switching employers.
Where can I find Mechanical Project Engineer jobs with TN visa sponsorship?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It surfaces Mechanical Project Engineer openings at employers with TN sponsorship experience, so you avoid spending time on applications where the hiring team has never handled a TN filing. Standard job boards don't filter by visa sponsorship type, which wastes time at the offer stage.
What documents does my employer need to provide for my TN application?
Your employer must provide a support letter on company letterhead that names the TN Engineer category, describes your specific project engineering duties, states your anticipated salary and employment duration, and confirms your degree qualifies you for the role. Canadian citizens present this letter at the port of entry to CBP. Mexican citizens submit it as part of their consular visa application package.
Can I switch employers while working on a TN visa as a Mechanical Project Engineer?
Yes, but TN status is employer-specific. You cannot start working for a new employer until that employer has filed a new TN petition with USCIS or, for Canadian citizens, you have obtained new TN status at a port of entry. There is no portability provision equivalent to H-1B's AC21, so a gap in authorization between roles is a real compliance risk you need to plan around carefully.
