Entry Level Transmission Engineer Jobs: Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get an entry level transmission engineer job?
Entry level transmission engineer roles typically look for a degree in electrical engineering or a related field, along with hands-on exposure through internships, senior capstone projects, or lab work in power systems. Familiarity with power flow analysis software, relay protection concepts, and grid fundamentals gives candidates a clear edge. Highlighting any project work that involved transmission line design, load flow studies, or protection coordination will strengthen an application at this stage.
Which companies hire entry level transmission engineers?
Companies hiring entry level transmission engineers right now include Quanta Services, Sargent & Lundy, and American Electric Power, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. At this level, hiring tends to come from electric utilities, regional transmission organizations, and engineering consulting firms that build out entry-level rotational programs or structured mentorship tracks for new technical hires.
Are there remote entry level transmission engineer jobs?
Yes, though most roles at this level are on-site given the hands-on nature of grid and substation work. About 12% of entry level transmission engineer openings are remote or hybrid as of June 2026, and those positions typically involve planning, modeling, or data analysis work that does not require a physical field presence.
Are these new grad transmission engineer jobs?
Yes, these listings include new grad, recent graduate, and junior transmission engineer roles. A posting is generally new-grad friendly when it explicitly welcomes zero to two years of experience, accepts internship or co-op experience in place of full-time history, or invites candidates to submit a project portfolio. Look for language like "entry level," "new graduates encouraged to apply," or "training provided" as reliable signals.
Which industries hire the most entry level transmission engineers?
Entry Level transmission engineer roles concentrate in Consulting & Professional Services, Energy, and Construction & Real Estate, based on current listings on Migrate Mate as of June 2026. These sectors drive hiring at this level because ongoing grid modernization, renewable energy integration, and infrastructure investment create steady demand for early-career engineers who can support planning, protection, and system studies work.
