Which companies sponsor visas for finance interns in California?
Large financial institutions with California offices, including Goldman Sachs, JPMorgan Chase, BlackRock, and Wells Fargo, have historically sponsored finance interns. Fintech firms headquartered in San Francisco, such as Stripe and Chime, also hire international finance interns. Sponsorship availability varies by year, hiring cycle, and role, so confirming directly with each employer's recruiting team is essential before applying.
Which visa types are most common for finance intern roles in California?
Most international finance interns in California work under F-1 OPT or CPT authorization, which allows students enrolled at U.S. universities to work for a qualifying employer without the employer filing a separate visa petition. Some interns from Australia may use the E-3 visa for post-graduation full-time roles. The H-1B is rarely used for short-term internships due to the lottery and timing constraints.
Which cities in California have the most finance intern sponsorship jobs?
San Francisco and its surrounding Bay Area cities, including San Jose and Oakland, account for a large share of finance intern roles given the concentration of venture capital firms, fintech startups, and investment management companies. Los Angeles is also active, particularly in entertainment finance, private equity, and banking. San Diego has a smaller but growing presence through biotech finance and regional bank internships.
How to find finance intern visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking visa sponsorship roles and filters finance intern positions by state, making California-specific searches straightforward. Because sponsorship eligibility can vary significantly between employers and even between teams within the same firm, using a platform like Migrate Mate that surfaces verified sponsorship information saves considerable time compared to screening general job listings manually.
Are there any California-specific considerations for finance interns seeking visa sponsorship?
California's competitive university pipeline, including UC Berkeley, UCLA, and USC, means international students already embedded in California schools often have the strongest access to local finance internships through campus recruiting. California also enforces its own labor protections that apply to interns, and employers are generally familiar with OPT and CPT processes given the state's large international student population at both public and private universities.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored finance intern jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
