Which companies sponsor visas for finance interns in New York?
The most active sponsors for finance interns in New York include large financial institutions such as JPMorgan Chase, Goldman Sachs, Citigroup, Morgan Stanley, and BlackRock. These firms have established international intern programs and documented histories of filing visa petitions. Boutique investment banks and asset managers in Midtown Manhattan also sponsor international interns, though less consistently than bulge-bracket firms.
Which visa types are most common for finance intern roles in New York?
Most international finance interns in New York work under F-1 OPT or CPT authorization, which allows students enrolled at U.S. universities to complete paid internships without a separate employer-sponsored petition. Some interns from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa. The H-1B visa is typically not applicable for short-term internships due to its annual cap and timing constraints, though it becomes relevant for full-time conversion roles.
Which cities in New York have the most finance intern sponsorship jobs?
Manhattan accounts for the overwhelming majority of finance intern sponsorship opportunities in New York, particularly the Financial District, Midtown, and Hudson Yards. Buffalo and Albany have smaller finance sectors tied to regional banking and state government finance roles. For international interns specifically, Manhattan is where sponsoring employers are concentrated, and proximity to major financial institutions makes it the practical center for this job search.
How to find finance intern visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates seeking sponsored roles and filters finance intern positions in New York by visa sponsorship eligibility, saving time compared to general job searches. Beyond the platform, targeting firms with established international intern programs and applying during fall recruiting cycles for summer positions gives the strongest chance of finding sponsored finance intern openings in New York.
Are there state-specific considerations for finance interns seeking visa sponsorship in New York?
New York State requires employers to comply with its own wage and labor laws, which sometimes exceed federal minimums and apply to interns depending on the role structure. Finance interns at regulated institutions may also need FINRA registration or licensing for certain tasks, which can affect how employers classify intern roles. Universities in the New York City metro area, including NYU and Columbia, have strong pipelines into sponsored finance internship programs at nearby firms.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored finance intern jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
