Which companies sponsor visas for pharmacy interns in California?
Large health systems and pharmacy chains are the most consistent sponsors for pharmacy intern roles in California. Kaiser Permanente, Sutter Health, Dignity Health, and UC Health have established international hiring pipelines through their academic medical centers. National retail chains including CVS Health and Walgreens also sponsor interns at California locations, though hospital and health system employers tend to have more structured visa sponsorship programs.
Which visa types are most common for pharmacy intern roles in California?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for pharmacy interns transitioning to full professional roles, but intern positions themselves are frequently filled under F-1 OPT or CPT, which many California pharmacy schools actively support. Some positions may qualify for J-1 visa exchange visitor status through affiliated training programs. Candidates already holding OPT work authorization are often prioritized by California employers before formal H-1B visa sponsorship is considered.
Which cities in California have the most pharmacy intern sponsorship jobs?
Los Angeles and San Francisco account for the largest share of pharmacy intern sponsorship opportunities in California, driven by the density of hospital systems, academic medical centers, and specialty clinics in both metros. San Diego is also notable due to its strong cluster of biotech and clinical pharmacy employers. Sacramento sees consistent demand tied to state government health programs and UC Davis Health.
How to find pharmacy intern visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate is designed specifically for international candidates looking for visa sponsorship roles, including pharmacy intern positions in California. The platform filters jobs by sponsorship availability and state, so you can browse California-specific pharmacy intern openings without sifting through listings that don't offer visa support. Setting up alerts for pharmacy intern roles in California on Migrate Mate will surface new sponsored postings as they appear.
Are there state-specific requirements for pharmacy interns in California that affect visa sponsorship?
Yes. California requires pharmacy interns to hold an active intern license issued by the California State Board of Pharmacy, which must be obtained before beginning any supervised intern hours. International candidates on F-1 OPT or H-1B status must ensure their work authorization is in place before the intern license is used in a paid capacity. Employers in California are generally familiar with these requirements, but confirming licensure eligibility early in the hiring process is important.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored pharmacy intern jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
