Which companies sponsor visas for pharmacy interns in Michigan?
Michigan's largest health systems are the most active sponsors for pharmacy intern roles. Henry Ford Health, Spectrum Health (now Corewell Health), Beaumont Health, and Ascension Michigan have established international hiring processes and the HR infrastructure to support H-1B and other work visa filings. Large regional pharmacy chains and academic medical centers affiliated with University of Michigan Health also participate in sponsorship, though capacity varies by location and budget cycle.
Which visa types are most common for pharmacy intern roles in Michigan?
The H-1B is the most common visa for pharmacy interns transitioning into licensed pharmacist roles, as the position typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a pharmacy degree. F-1 students completing pharmacy programs at Michigan universities may work under OPT or STEM OPT extensions during their internship phase. TN visas are available to Canadian and Mexican pharmacists under USMCA, though this applies specifically to licensed pharmacist positions rather than internship-level roles.
Which cities in Michigan have the most pharmacy intern sponsorship jobs?
Detroit and its surrounding Metro area, including Dearborn, Royal Oak, and Troy, account for the largest share of pharmacy intern sponsorship opportunities in Michigan, driven by the concentration of major hospital systems and health networks. Grand Rapids is the second-largest market, anchored by Corewell Health and its affiliated facilities. Lansing, Ann Arbor, and Kalamazoo also see consistent openings, particularly through academic medical centers and regional hospital groups.
How to find pharmacy intern visa sponsorship jobs in Michigan?
Migrate Mate filters pharmacy intern job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search Michigan roles without sorting through positions that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces openings at health systems and hospital networks across Detroit, Grand Rapids, and Lansing that have a documented history of sponsoring work visas. Filtering by state and role on Migrate Mate saves significant time compared to reviewing unfiltered job postings.
Are there any Michigan-specific considerations for pharmacy intern visa sponsorship?
Michigan requires pharmacy interns to hold a valid state intern license issued by the Michigan Board of Pharmacy, which is a prerequisite before any clinical intern work can begin, regardless of visa status. Employers sponsoring international pharmacy interns must also meet federal prevailing wage requirements tied to the geographic area, which differ between the Detroit metro market and smaller Michigan cities. International candidates enrolled in Michigan pharmacy programs should coordinate OPT timing carefully with both their university's international office and the hiring employer.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored pharmacy intern jobs in Michigan?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
