Which companies sponsor visas for pharmacy interns in New York?
Large health systems with established HR infrastructure are the most consistent sponsors. In New York, that includes Northwell Health, NewYork-Presbyterian, Mount Sinai Health System, and NYC Health + Hospitals. Major retail pharmacy chains with New York operations also participate in sponsorship for qualifying intern roles, though sponsorship availability varies by location and workforce need at the time of hiring.
Which visa types are most common for pharmacy intern roles in New York?
The H-1B visa is the most common work visa for pharmacy interns transitioning to licensed pharmacist roles, but intern positions themselves are often filled by students on F-1 OPT or CPT, which allows work authorization during or immediately after a pharmacy degree program. International pharmacy graduates should confirm with their school's international student office which authorization applies to their specific internship arrangement.
Which cities in New York have the most pharmacy intern sponsorship jobs?
New York City accounts for the largest share of pharmacy intern sponsorship opportunities in the state, driven by the density of hospital networks, outpatient clinics, and retail pharmacy locations across Manhattan, Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx. Buffalo and Albany also have meaningful activity, primarily through regional hospital systems and academic medical centers affiliated with University at Buffalo and Albany Medical Center.
How to find pharmacy intern visa sponsorship jobs in New York?
Migrate Mate filters pharmacy intern jobs specifically to employers who sponsor visas, which removes the guesswork of sorting through postings that don't support international candidates. For New York, you can narrow results by city to focus on NYC hospital networks or upstate health systems. Migrate Mate also surfaces role-level sponsorship data, which is particularly useful for pharmacy interns navigating OPT and H-1B timelines.
Are there state-specific considerations for pharmacy interns seeking visa sponsorship in New York?
Yes. New York requires pharmacy interns to register with the New York State Education Department and work under a licensed pharmacist, which applies regardless of visa status. International students on F-1 OPT completing a Doctor of Pharmacy program at New York institutions like St. John's University, Albany College of Pharmacy, or Long Island University should confirm that their internship site and hours comply with both NYSED requirements and their OPT work authorization conditions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored pharmacy intern jobs in New York?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
