Which companies sponsor visas for software engineering managers in California?
The highest volume of H-1B sponsorships for software engineering managers in California comes from large tech employers including Google, Apple, Meta, Amazon, Salesforce, Adobe, and Nvidia. Mid-size and growth-stage companies in the Bay Area and Los Angeles also sponsor regularly, particularly those backed by institutional venture capital that have established relationships with immigration counsel.
Which visa types are most common for software engineering manager roles in California?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software engineering managers in California, covering specialty occupations that require at least a bachelor's degree in a related field. L-1A intracompany transferee visas are also common for managers moving within a multinational company. Candidates with extraordinary ability may qualify for the O-1A, which has no annual cap or lottery requirement.
Which cities in California have the most software engineering manager sponsorship jobs?
The San Francisco Bay Area, including San Jose, Mountain View, Sunnyvale, and San Francisco itself, accounts for the majority of software engineering manager sponsorship activity in California. Los Angeles has a growing tech sector, particularly in areas like Santa Monica and Culver City. San Diego has a notable presence in defense technology, biotech software, and semiconductor companies that hire engineering managers.
How to find software engineering manager visa sponsorship jobs in California?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search software engineering manager roles in California without having to screen out employers who don't sponsor. Because the Bay Area market is competitive, Migrate Mate lets you narrow results by location and role to focus on companies with an active track record of sponsoring international engineering leadership hires.
Are there any California-specific considerations for software engineering manager visa sponsorship?
California's high cost of living means prevailing wage requirements for H-1B software engineering manager roles are among the highest in the country, which affects the employer's overall sponsorship cost. The state's strong university pipeline from UC Berkeley, Stanford, and UCLA also means significant competition from candidates already holding work authorization. Employers familiar with sponsoring in California are generally more experienced with the full H-1B petition process.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineering manager jobs in California?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
