MECHANICAL ENGINEERING INTERN
JOB SUMMARY
The Mechanical Engineering Intern supports the Engineering Services Team in the creation and maintenance of accurate engineering models and drawings for StoneAge products. The primary responsibility of this role is the timely and accurate production of standards compliant CAD documentation in support of Product Development and Manufacturing. This position provides exposure to mechanical design practices, drawing standards, tolerance analysis, and engineering change processes. This position reports to the Engineering Services Manager.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Engineering Documentation and CAD Execution:
- Create, revise, and maintain 3D models, assemblies, and detailed drawings in SolidWorks
- Apply internal drawing standards, GD&T practices, and defined design criteria
- Perform drawing checks for accuracy, completeness, and basic tolerance validation
- Implement Engineering Change Orders and create or update Engineering Change Notices as required
- Maintain organization and consistency within CAD libraries and released documentation
- Track engineering time by project
Throughput and Cross Functional Support:
- Meet assigned deadlines in support of Product Development and New Product Introduction
- Communicate project status, workload, and obstacles clearly to the Engineering Services Manager and project leads
- Work with Production Coordination to release drawings to Manufacturing
- Respond to drawing clarification and revision requests from Manufacturing, Quality, Assembly, and external suppliers
- Participate in standups, engineering meetings, and design reviews as required
Engineering Development Exposure:
- Work with Engineers to understand design intent and complete new or in process drawings
- Support tolerance stack ups, basic engineering calculations, and documentation updates as assigned
- Assist in evaluating and implementing approved design updates
- Support testing and validation activities when needed
- Contribute to continuous improvement of engineering documentation practices
- Perform additional duties as assigned
KNOWLEDGE AND TRAINING REQUIREMENTS
Required:
- Pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related technical field
- Working knowledge of SolidWorks or similar CAD platform
- Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple tasks
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Clear written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office
Preferred:
- Exposure to manufacturing processes
- Programming experience in Python, C++, MATLAB, LabVIEW, or similar
- Familiarity with high pressure or industrial equipment environments

- Travel may be required
- Extended working hours may be necessary during peak periods
- Must be able to lift heavy loads using proper lifting techniques as outlined in the StoneAge Employee Handbook.
