Which companies sponsor visas for mental health professionals in Colorado?
UCHealth, Children's Hospital Colorado, SCL Health, and Jefferson Center for Mental Health are among the Colorado employers with documented histories of sponsoring international mental health professionals. Federally Qualified Health Centers and community mental health centers, such as Clinica Family Health and Mental Health Partners, also sponsor visas, particularly for roles serving underserved populations where staffing shortages are most acute.
Which visa types are most common for mental health roles in Colorado?
The H-1B is the most common visa for licensed psychologists, licensed professional counselors, and behavioral health program managers, since these roles typically require a master's or doctoral degree in a specific field. The J-1 visa is also used for psychiatry residents and postdoctoral psychology fellows at teaching hospitals. Foreign-trained psychiatrists often enter on J-1 and may pursue Conrad 30 waivers to remain in Colorado after completing their exchange program.
Which cities in Colorado have the most mental health visa sponsorship jobs?
Denver and Aurora account for the largest share of mental health sponsorship activity, driven by major health systems, the VA Eastern Colorado Healthcare System, and hospital-affiliated behavioral health programs. Boulder and Fort Collins have growing demand tied to university communities and tech-sector employee assistance programs. Rural areas along the Eastern Plains and Western Slope also post sponsored positions, particularly through telehealth-enabled community health centers seeking bilingual clinicians.
How to find mental health visa sponsorship jobs in Colorado?
Migrate Mate is a job board built specifically for international professionals seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter by state and role to browse mental health positions in Colorado posted by employers that sponsor. This is more targeted than general job searches because listings are curated for sponsorship-eligible candidates, saving time that would otherwise be spent screening out employers that don't sponsor.
Are there state-specific considerations for mental health professionals seeking sponsorship in Colorado?
Colorado requires independent licensure, such as LPC or LCSW, for most clinical roles, which international candidates must obtain through the Colorado State Board of Licensed Professional Counselor Examiners or equivalent board. Credential evaluation and supervised hours requirements can affect hiring timelines. Colorado also participates in the Conrad 30 J-1 waiver program, which allows physicians, including psychiatrists, to waive the two-year home residency requirement by committing to work in a Health Professional Shortage Area.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mental health jobs in Colorado?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
