Tips for Finding STEM OPT Jobs in Delaware
Target Delaware employers already enrolled in E-Verify
STEM OPT employers must be E-Verify participants before USCIS will approve your extension. In Delaware, pharma and financial firms in the Wilmington corridor are typically enrolled. Confirm E-Verify status directly with HR before accepting an offer to avoid last-minute complications.
Align your training plan before the offer stage
USCIS requires a completed Form I-983 training plan signed by both you and your employer before your DSO can recommend the STEM OPT extension. Raise this with hiring managers in Delaware early, since smaller biotech firms and startups often haven't prepared one before and need lead time.
Plan around your 90-day reporting window
STEM OPT requires you to report any material changes, including employer changes or role changes, to your DSO within 10 days, and re-report your employment status every six months through SEVIS. Build these reporting deadlines into your calendar from day one to stay compliant throughout your authorization period.

Which industries in Delaware sponsor the most F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, and financial services are the dominant F-1 STEM OPT sponsoring industries in Delaware. The Wilmington-Newark corridor hosts major pharma and specialty chemical operations, while Wilmington's financial district includes banks and fintech firms regularly hiring data analysts and software engineers. Engineering roles tied to chemical manufacturing and materials science also appear consistently across the state.
Which cities in Delaware have the most F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington holds the largest concentration of F-1 STEM OPT sponsoring employers in Delaware, driven by its financial services and pharma presence. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, has a secondary cluster of biotech, research, and engineering roles. Employers in both cities tend to be E-Verify enrolled, which is a prerequisite for STEM OPT authorization.
What types of roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Delaware?
Roles that map to STEM-designated STEM degree classifications qualify, including software developers, data scientists, biomedical engineers, financial quantitative analysts, chemists, and research scientists. The role must be directly related to your STEM degree field, paid, and structured as formal employment rather than self-employment or contract work through a third party. You can confirm STEM degree classification eligibility through O*NET.
How do I find F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate lets you filter job listings by visa type and state, showing Delaware employers with documented DOL LCA filing history for roles. This removes the guesswork of cold-applying to employers who have never sponsored an F-1 worker. You can target Wilmington and Newark employers specifically and confirm E-Verify enrollment before investing time in the application process.
Are there any Delaware-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Delaware's small geographic footprint means many STEM OPT holders commute to employers in neighboring Pennsylvania or New Jersey, which is permitted but requires that your employer's primary worksite address is correctly documented in your I-983 training plan. Delaware also has no state income tax on wages for non-residents working within the state, which affects how some employers structure compensation discussions.
