Role Overview
The Senior Technical Associate will work as part of an interdisciplinary R&D team, supporting pilot-scale polymerization and laboratory research under the guidance of a Technical Principal Investigator. This position requires strong laboratory skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work both collaboratively and independently. The role involves organic chemistry, polymer processing, materials characterization, and mechanical testing using a wide range of laboratory and pilot-scale equipment.
Key Responsibilities
- Independently conduct organic reactions at both laboratory and pilot scales, including system setup, monitoring, product workup, analysis, characterization, and thorough documentation using an electronic laboratory notebook (ELN)
- Manufacture polymer parts from resins through mixing, milling, pressing, and sintering; monitor processes and perform post-processing analysis and documentation
- Interpret experimental findings, diagnose unexpected results, and develop recommendations for next steps
- Characterize polymer structure and performance using analytical techniques such as NMR and IR spectroscopy
- Learn and operate polymer and materials characterization equipment including DSC, TGA, DMA, TMA, impact, and tensile testing instruments
- Maintain accurate and complete experimental records; prepare reports and present findings at team meetings
- Troubleshoot, calibrate, and maintain laboratory and pilot-scale equipment; author and maintain instrument manuals and SOPs
- Adhere to all DuPont safety policies and best practices, including support of Process Safety Management (PSM) requirements and maintenance of required safety documentation
- Order laboratory supplies and maintain inventories of chemicals, resins, and experimental samples
- Coordinate external laboratory testing, including proper packaging and shipment of samples in compliance with DOT regulations
- Perform physical tasks including handling flammable liquids and powders (drum quantities) and limited lifting of laboratory equipment (e.g., reactors, glassware)
Qualifications
- B.S. degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Materials Science, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
- Prior experience with pilot-scale polymerization and handling drum quantities of flammable materials is highly preferred
- Familiarity with polymer characterization techniques and instrumentation is preferred
- Strong organizational skills with excellent attention to detail
- Ability to learn and apply a wide variety of testing methods and laboratory instruments
- Effective communication skills with the ability to prioritize, organize, and plan work independently
- Demonstrated teamwork and strong interpersonal skills
- Proficiency with Windows-based computer systems
- Experience with mechanical testing equipment is a plus

Which electronics companies in Delaware sponsor F-1 STEM OPT visas?
Delaware's electronics and hardware sector includes established sponsors such as DuPont, Siemens Energy, and various defense and semiconductor subcontractors operating in the Wilmington and New Castle areas. Larger multinationals with Delaware headquarters or regional offices tend to have formal STEM OPT sponsorship infrastructure, including E-Verify enrollment, which is a federal requirement for all STEM OPT extensions. Smaller electronics firms may sponsor but often handle cases on an ad hoc basis.
Which cities in Delaware have the most electronics F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs?
Wilmington is Delaware's primary hub for electronics and engineering employment, hosting the state's largest corporate presences and industrial operations. Newark, home to the University of Delaware, also attracts electronics employers seeking STEM talent. New Castle County overall accounts for the majority of Delaware's private-sector engineering roles. Dover sees some activity tied to Dover Air Force Base and related defense electronics contractors, though volumes are lower than the northern corridor.
What types of electronics roles typically qualify for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship?
Roles that qualify generally fall within STEM-designated Classification of Instructional Programs codes. In electronics and hardware, this includes positions such as electrical engineer, embedded systems engineer, hardware design engineer, PCB layout engineer, RF engineer, and manufacturing process engineer. The position must be directly related to the student's STEM degree field. O*NET occupation profiles can help confirm whether a specific job title is classified under a qualifying STEM category before applying.
How do I find electronics F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship jobs in Delaware?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa type, letting you search for electronics and hardware roles where employers have documented STEM OPT sponsorship history in Delaware. This saves significant time compared to general job searches where sponsorship willingness is unclear. Within Migrate Mate, you can narrow by industry tag such as Electronics and Hardware and by state to surface Delaware-specific opportunities across Wilmington, Newark, and New Castle County employers actively hiring STEM OPT candidates.
Are there state-specific considerations for F-1 STEM OPT sponsorship in Delaware's electronics sector?
Delaware has no state-level visa sponsorship requirements beyond federal STEM OPT rules, but a few practical factors stand out. Employers must be enrolled in E-Verify to sponsor a STEM OPT extension, and Delaware's relatively small employer pool means competition can be concentrated among a handful of large companies. Delaware's favorable corporate legal environment attracts holding companies and headquarters, but actual engineering headcount may be lower than company size suggests. Verifying that a Delaware-registered employer has physical operations in the state is worth confirming before applying.
