Which companies in Florida sponsor visas for mechanical engineers?
Aerospace and defense contractors are among the most active visa sponsors for mechanical engineers in Florida. Companies such as Lockheed Martin, Raytheon Technologies, Northrop Grumman, and L3Harris Technologies have sponsored mechanical engineers through the H-1B visa program, particularly at facilities near Orlando, Palm Beach, and the Space Coast. Siemens and Pratt & Whitney also maintain engineering operations in Florida with documented sponsorship histories.
Which visa types are most common for mechanical engineer roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa for mechanical engineers in Florida, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under USMCA. Engineers with extraordinary ability or multinational manager experience sometimes pursue O-1 visa or L-1 visas, though these are less common for standard engineering roles.
Which cities in Florida have the most mechanical engineer visa sponsorship jobs?
Orlando and the surrounding Space Coast corridor, including Cocoa and Melbourne, account for a large share of mechanical engineer sponsorship jobs due to the concentration of aerospace and defense employers. Tampa and St. Petersburg attract engineers in manufacturing, marine systems, and energy sectors. Jacksonville supports naval engineering roles tied to nearby naval installations. Miami sees demand in construction, infrastructure, and marine engineering, though at lower volumes than the Orlando and Tampa regions.
How to find mechanical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, which removes the guesswork of applying to positions that won't consider international candidates. For mechanical engineer roles in Florida, you can search by state and role on Migrate Mate to surface relevant openings across aerospace, defense, manufacturing, and energy sectors. Focusing applications on employers with prior H-1B filing histories in Florida improves the likelihood of reaching a productive conversation with a recruiter.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for mechanical engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Florida's heavy concentration of defense and aerospace work means many mechanical engineer roles involve security clearance requirements, which can limit sponsorship options for non-citizens since most clearances require U.S. citizenship or permanent residency. Engineers targeting non-defense sectors such as manufacturing, energy, or infrastructure face fewer clearance barriers. Florida universities including the University of Florida and University of Central Florida produce engineering graduates who often enter the local job market, creating a well-established pipeline that employers and immigration attorneys in the state are familiar with.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanical engineer jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
