SENIOR MECHANICAL PROJECT ENGINEER - APAC
Needham, MA (On-site)
Join SharkNinja's NPD team and turn ideas that don't exist yet into products people love. We're looking for a Senior Mechanical Project Engineer who thrives on hard problems, gets energy from building things with their hands, and wants to see their work on shelves, in homes, and in stores within a year or two of dreaming it up.
You'll own the design and development of consumer products from first sketch through launch and beyond, working shoulder-to-shoulder with engineering and product teams to figure out how systems perform and where the real tradeoffs are. You'll pull in people from other disciplines to brainstorm, build rough prototypes, and stress-test them until you know exactly what works. You'll mentor and guide a team of engineers, co-ops, and interns, helping them grow while you push the team's collective bar higher. And you'll get the payoff most engineers never do: watching something you built go from a CAD file to an infomercial to someone's kitchen counter.
WHAT YOU BRING
- BS or MS in Mechanical Engineering
- 5+ years of experience designing and developing physical products
- Experience coordinating engineering activities across teams including reviewing design documents, product validation results and more
- Demonstrated ability to bring enabling technologies into products that actually ship
- Proficient in SolidWorks or Creo
- Comfortable in a lab setting, running controlled experiments on your own prototypes
- Skilled with hands-on prototyping: 3D printing, machining, hand tools, building robust assemblies
- Strong with Excel, Minitab, or MATLAB (or similar) to turn test data into real insight
- Clear communicator, able to explain technical concepts to both technical and non-technical colleagues
- Organized, methodical, and relentless about catching problems before they become expensive
- Enjoys building genuine working relationships with colleagues
NICE TO HAVES
- Experience building and executing test plans that directly shaped design decisions
- Comfortable juggling shifting priorities without losing the thread on long-term goals
- Background at a consumer products company or consulting firm
- Familiarity with electronics (analog/digital) and components common in small appliances — sensors, motors, heaters, PCBAs — plus related test equipment

Which companies sponsor visas for mechanical engineers in Massachusetts?
Defense and aerospace contractors are among the most active sponsors, including Raytheon Technologies and General Dynamics in the Greater Boston and Tewksbury areas. Medical device companies such as Boston Scientific, Stryker, and Medtronic also sponsor mechanical engineers regularly. Robotics and automation firms like iRobot and Cognex, along with larger manufacturers along the Route 128 technology corridor, round out the sponsoring employer pool.
Which visa types are most common for mechanical engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for mechanical engineers in Massachusetts, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or a closely related field. The O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrated extraordinary achievement. Canadian and Mexican nationals may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA professional category for engineers.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most mechanical engineer sponsorship jobs?
Greater Boston, including Cambridge and Somerville, concentrates the most mechanical engineering roles due to its density of research institutions, robotics startups, and biotech firms. The Route 128 corridor, covering cities like Waltham, Woburn, and Burlington, hosts major defense and medical device employers. Lowell and Andover also see steady mechanical engineering hiring, particularly from defense and advanced manufacturing companies.
How to find mechanical engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is a dedicated platform for international job seekers looking for visa-sponsored mechanical engineer roles in Massachusetts. You can filter by state and job category to surface employers actively open to sponsorship, cutting through listings that don't apply to visa holders. Given the concentration of defense, medtech, and robotics hiring in Massachusetts, the platform helps you focus on the employers most relevant to your background.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific considerations for mechanical engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Massachusetts has a strong university pipeline, with MIT, Northeastern, and Worcester Polytechnic Institute producing mechanical engineering graduates who compete for the same sponsored roles, so early engagement with employers matters. Defense contractors in Massachusetts often require security clearances, which non-U.S. citizens generally cannot hold, so it's worth confirming clearance requirements before applying. The state's prevailing wages for mechanical engineers are above the national average, which affects H-1B Labor Condition Application filings.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored mechanical engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
