Which companies sponsor visas for senior software engineers in Florida?
Several large Florida-based and Florida-operating employers have consistent H-1B visa sponsorship histories for senior software engineering roles. These include Chewy (Dania Beach), Citrix (Fort Lauderdale), Lockheed Martin (Orlando), Microsoft (multiple Florida offices), and Amazon Web Services. Defense contractors concentrated around Orlando and the Space Coast also sponsor regularly, as do fintech firms headquartered in Miami such as Modernizing Medicine and Kairos.
Which visa types are most common for senior software engineering roles in Florida?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for senior software engineers in Florida, given that the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field. Australian citizens working at Florida employers can use the E-3 visa as an alternative. Candidates with extraordinary ability or exceptional research backgrounds may also qualify for O-1A or EB-1A classification.
Which cities in Florida have the most senior software engineering sponsorship jobs?
Miami leads in volume, driven by its fintech, healthtech, and startup concentration. Orlando is the second-largest market, anchored by defense simulation companies, gaming studios like EA Sports, and technology divisions within hospitality giants. Tampa has grown significantly with cybersecurity and financial services firms expanding there. Fort Lauderdale, home to Citrix and several cloud companies, rounds out the top four markets for senior engineering sponsorship.
How to find senior software engineering visa sponsorship jobs in Florida?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for this search. It filters senior software engineering roles in Florida by visa sponsorship status, so you are not sorting through listings from employers who do not sponsor. You can also review employer sponsorship history to prioritize companies with active H-1B filing records in Florida. For senior-level roles, filtering by seniority on Migrate Mate helps surface positions that match the experience level required for sponsorship consideration.
Are there any Florida-specific considerations for senior software engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Florida's lack of state income tax can affect how employers structure compensation packages, which matters when an H-1B sponsor must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific metropolitan statistical area. Orlando and Miami are in separate wage determination zones, so the same job title can have different prevailing wage thresholds. Florida's defense and aerospace sector also adds security clearance requirements at some employers, which can complicate sponsorship for candidates who are not yet U.S. permanent residents.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored senior software engineering jobs in Florida?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
