Which companies sponsor visas for general managers in Hawaii?
Hospitality groups are the most active sponsors for general manager roles in Hawaii. Large hotel operators including Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, and Four Seasons have sponsored GMs at their Honolulu and Maui properties. Retail chains and restaurant groups with multi-unit Hawaii operations also sponsor periodically, though hospitality remains the primary source of sponsorship activity for this role.
Which visa types are most common for general manager roles in Hawaii?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for general managers in Hawaii, provided the role requires a bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as hospitality management, business administration, or a related discipline. The L-1A intracompany transferee visa is another viable pathway for candidates already employed by a multinational company with a Hawaii property, as general manager positions can qualify as managerial under L-1A criteria.
Which cities in Hawaii have the most general manager sponsorship jobs?
Honolulu accounts for the largest share of general manager sponsorship opportunities in Hawaii, driven by its concentration of full-service hotels, restaurants, and retail operations. Maui, particularly the Kaanapali and Wailea resort corridors, is the second most active area. Kauai and the Big Island have smaller but steady demand tied to resort properties in Poipu and Waikoloa.
How to find general manager visa sponsorship jobs in Hawaii?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find general manager visa sponsorship jobs filtered to Hawaii. The platform surfaces roles from employers with documented sponsorship history, so you can focus on hospitality groups, hotel operators, and multi-unit businesses that have sponsored work visas before, rather than applying broadly and asking each employer whether sponsorship is available.
Are there any Hawaii-specific considerations for general managers seeking visa sponsorship?
Hawaii's heavy reliance on tourism creates seasonal hiring patterns, with the most active recruiting periods running ahead of peak travel seasons. Employers filing H-1B petitions for general managers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are determined by the Honolulu or Kahului metropolitan area, depending on the job location. Candidates with prior experience managing hotel or resort operations tend to have the strongest sponsorship prospects here.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored general manager jobs in Hawaii?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
