Which companies sponsor visas for software quality engineers in Illinois?
Illinois-based employers with documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for software quality engineer roles include Motorola Solutions, Zebra Technologies, Allstate, Discover Financial, and CME Group. Large consulting firms with Illinois offices, including Accenture and Cognizant, also regularly file H-1B petitions for QA engineering positions. Sponsorship activity is highest among mid-to-large enterprises in the Chicago metro area.
Which visa types are most common for software quality engineer roles in Illinois?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for software quality engineers in Illinois, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field. Some candidates also enter on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extensions before transitioning to H-1B sponsorship. L-1 visa transfers occasionally apply for engineers moving from a foreign affiliated office to an Illinois location.
Which cities in Illinois have the most software quality engineer sponsorship jobs?
Chicago accounts for the vast majority of software quality engineer sponsorship activity in Illinois, driven by its concentration of fintech, insurtech, and enterprise software employers. The suburban corridor along the I-90 northwest corridor, including Schaumburg and Hoffman Estates, is also significant due to Motorola Solutions and related tech companies headquartered there. Urbana-Champaign sees some activity tied to the University of Illinois research and startup ecosystem.
How to find software quality engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Illinois?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search for software quality engineer roles in Illinois without manually screening out non-sponsoring employers. The platform surfaces positions from companies that have a history of filing H-1B and other work visa petitions, which is particularly useful given how inconsistently sponsorship willingness is disclosed in standard job postings across the Illinois market.
Are there any Illinois-specific factors that affect visa sponsorship for software quality engineers?
Illinois does not impose state-level restrictions on visa sponsorship, but employers must comply with Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the Chicago-Naperville-Elgin metropolitan area, which sets the wage floor for H-1B LCA filings. UIUC produces a significant volume of software engineering graduates who seek OPT and STEM OPT placements in Illinois each year, which means competition for local sponsorship roles can be meaningful at the entry level.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software quality engineer jobs in Illinois?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
