Relentless Curiosity. We seek to understand and improve our customers’ experience.
Smart Risk-Taking. We transform risk into progress through data, experience, and intuition.
Fearless Ownership. We deliver what we promise and learn along the way.
We’re Looking For
We’re hiring AI-first Software Engineers to build, evolve, and scale OPENLANE’s U.S. marketplace platforms. These roles are for engineers who already treat AI as a first-class development tool, not a novelty. You’ll use AI to move faster, ship higher-quality software, and reduce operational and development toil, while still applying strong engineering judgment, ownership, and systems thinking. You’ll work on customer-facing marketplace experiences and core platform services, partnering closely with Product, Data, Infrastructure, and SRE teams to deliver resilient, scalable systems. AI is an accelerator. Engineering ownership still matters.
Why OPENLANE
- Work on real-time, high-value marketplace systems at scale
- Be part of a major platform modernization and AI transformation
- Use AI as a first-class development tool—not an experiment
- Collaborate with experienced engineers, product leaders, and platform teams
- Grow in an environment that values learning, ownership, and impact
You Are
- AI-forward. You already use AI tools to enhance development speed, quality, and efficiency, and you continuously adapt as tooling evolves.
- Product-minded. You think beyond code and understand how technical decisions impact customers and business outcomes.
- Ownership-driven. You take responsibility for systems end-to-end, including reliability and operational health.
- Technically curious. You enjoy learning new technologies and thoughtfully evaluating emerging approaches.
- Quality-focused. You value clean, maintainable code, strong testing practices, and production-ready engineering standards.
You Bring
Core Engineering Skills
- Experience building and supporting production software systems
- Strong understanding of APIs, distributed systems, and cloud-native architecture
- Comfort working in modern CI/CD environments
- Experience with observability, monitoring, and incident response
- Ability to own features and systems end-to-end
AI-First Mindset
- Actively uses AI development tools (code copilots, AI debuggers, test generators)
- Curious about applying AI to real customer and business problems
- Able to critically evaluate AI outputs instead of blindly accepting them
- Comfortable learning and adapting in a fast-changing tool landscape
Technical Experience (One or More)
- Backend development (Java, Kotlin, Go, Python, .NET, Ruby, or similar)
- Frontend experience (React, TypeScript) is a plus
- AWS or similar cloud platforms
- Microservices and event-driven architectures
- SQL and data-driven applications
You Will
- Design, build, and operate scalable services that power U.S. marketplace workflows such as Buy Now, 45M, Simulcast, and DealerBlock
- Develop APIs and backend services on the modern, cloud-native, AI-enabled platform
- Embed AI-driven capabilities into marketplace features including pricing logic, negotiation flows, and workflow automation
- Use AI tools to accelerate coding, testing, debugging, and documentation while applying strong engineering judgment
- Partner with Product to translate business needs into durable, scalable technical solutions
- Participate in on-call rotations and support live production systems
- Improve system reliability, performance, security, and observability
- Contribute to technical direction, engineering standards, and long-term platform evolution
How You’ll Use AI In These Roles
- AI-assisted coding and refactoring
- AI-generated test coverage and validation
- AI-supported debugging and root-cause analysis
- AI-assisted documentation and knowledge sharing
- Applying AI tools to reduce repetitive work and increase engineering leverage

Which companies sponsor visas for software engineers in AI roles in Indiana?
Salesforce, Eli Lilly, Cummins, and Rolls-Royce have all filed H-1B petitions for software and AI engineering roles in Indiana based on Department of Labor disclosure data. Indianapolis-based tech consultancies and fintech firms also appear regularly in LCA filings. Sponsorship availability varies by team, headcount, and hiring cycle, so checking active job postings is the most reliable signal.
Which visa types are most common for software engineer AI roles in Indiana?
The H-1B is the most common visa for software engineer AI roles in Indiana, as these positions typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, AI, or a related field. The O-1A is an option for candidates with demonstrated recognition in AI research or engineering. F-1 OPT and STEM OPT extension periods are also frequently used by recent graduates before employer-sponsored petitions are filed.
Which cities in Indiana have the most software engineer AI sponsorship jobs?
Indianapolis accounts for the large majority of AI engineering sponsorship activity in Indiana, driven by its concentration of enterprise tech, healthcare technology, and financial services employers. Bloomington and West Lafayette see activity tied to Indiana University and Purdue University research partnerships and spin-off companies. For candidates open to relocation within the state, Indianapolis offers the broadest range of sponsored AI engineering roles.
How to find software engineer ai visa sponsorship jobs in Indiana?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can search software engineer AI roles in Indiana without sorting through postings that don't support international candidates. The platform aggregates positions from employers with documented H-1B and O-1 sponsorship histories in Indiana, saving time during an OPT or grace period window. Setting up role and location filters on Migrate Mate is the most direct way to surface relevant openings.
Are there any Indiana-specific considerations for software engineer AI visa sponsorship?
Purdue University's nationally ranked AI and machine learning programs create a consistent pipeline of F-1 graduates seeking STEM OPT and H-1B sponsorship, which means Indiana employers in this space are generally familiar with the sponsorship process. The Department of Labor sets prevailing wage levels for AI engineering roles by metropolitan area, so wages in Indianapolis are benchmarked differently than smaller Indiana markets. Candidates should confirm that a role's offered compensation meets the prevailing wage for the specific work location.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored software engineer ai jobs in Indiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
