Which companies sponsor visas for electrical controls engineers in Kansas?
Spirit AeroSystems and Textron Aviation in Wichita have sponsored H-1B workers for controls and electrical engineering roles. Koch Industries subsidiaries, including Flint Hills Resources and Koch Engineering Solutions, also appear in federal LCA disclosure data with relevant filings. Garmin, headquartered in nearby Olathe, regularly sponsors engineering positions. Sponsorship availability varies by year and business need, so checking current LCA filings is the most reliable way to verify activity.
Which visa types are most common for electrical controls engineer roles in Kansas?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for electrical controls engineers in Kansas, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a closely related field. Some positions at manufacturers with Canadian or Mexican operations may be filled through TN visas. Engineers with extraordinary ability or exceptional credentials may also explore the O-1A, though it requires substantial documented achievement.
Which cities in Kansas have the most electrical controls engineer sponsorship jobs?
Wichita is by far the most active market for electrical controls engineer sponsorship in Kansas, driven by its aerospace manufacturing concentration. Overland Park and Olathe in the Kansas City metro area are secondary hubs, particularly for technology and electronics companies like Garmin. Topeka and Salina see smaller volumes tied to food processing and industrial automation. For candidates without geographic restrictions, the Wichita market offers the broadest set of relevant employers.
How to find electrical controls engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Kansas?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, making it straightforward to find electrical controls engineer roles in Kansas without sorting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can search by state and job title to surface relevant openings from manufacturers, aerospace firms, and industrial automation companies. Checking Migrate Mate regularly is practical because sponsorship-eligible roles in Kansas tend to fill quickly and aren't always broadly advertised.
Are there any state-specific considerations for electrical controls engineers seeking sponsorship in Kansas?
Kansas does not impose state-level licensing requirements specific to controls engineers, though registered Professional Engineer (PE) licensure can strengthen a sponsorship case by demonstrating specialized competence. The state's aerospace and agricultural equipment manufacturing industries follow federal prevailing wage requirements tied to the Wichita and Kansas City metro areas, which determine the wage an H-1B sponsor must pay. Candidates with coursework or research ties to Kansas State University or Wichita State University's engineering programs may find existing employer recruiting relationships in the region.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored electrical controls engineer jobs in Kansas?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
