Which aerospace & defense companies sponsor visas in Louisiana?
Major sponsors include Lockheed Martin (New Orleans facility), Boeing Defense & Space, Northrop Grumman, and Textron Systems. Defense contractors like General Dynamics and Raytheon also maintain operations requiring specialized engineers. These companies typically sponsor H-1B visas for engineering roles and L-1 visas for international transfers from parent companies.
How to find aerospace & defense visa sponsorship jobs in Louisiana?
Migrate Mate specializes in connecting international professionals with Louisiana aerospace & defense employers who sponsor work visas. Focus on companies with federal contracts requiring security clearances, as they often need specialized talent. Target roles in avionics engineering, systems integration, and manufacturing engineering at major facilities in New Orleans and Shreveport.
Which visa types are most common for aerospace & defense roles in Louisiana?
H-1B visas dominate for engineering positions requiring bachelor's degrees in aerospace, mechanical, or electrical engineering. L-1A and L-1B visas are common for transfers from international defense contractors. O-1 visas occasionally apply for senior engineers with extraordinary ability in specialized defense technologies or space systems.
Which cities in Louisiana have the most aerospace & defense sponsorship jobs?
New Orleans leads with major Lockheed Martin and Boeing facilities, followed by Baton Rouge with ExxonMobil aerospace fuel systems and LSU research partnerships. Shreveport has General Dynamics operations, while Lake Charles hosts defense manufacturing. The I-10 corridor between New Orleans and Baton Rouge concentrates most opportunities.
What are the prevailing wage considerations for aerospace & defense roles in Louisiana?
Louisiana's lower cost of living results in prevailing wages typically 10-15% below national averages, but federal contract work often maintains competitive compensation. Security clearance requirements can increase wages significantly. DOL prevailing wage determinations factor in Louisiana's regional wage data, making visa applications more straightforward for qualified candidates.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored aerospace & defense jobs in Louisiana?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
