Tips for Finding H-2B Sponsorship Jobs in Maryland
Target Ocean City and Eastern Shore employers early
Seasonal hospitality and seafood employers in Ocean City and the Chesapeake Bay region file H-2B petitions months before peak season. Reaching out to these employers in fall or winter significantly improves your chances of being included in a petition.
Focus on industries with consistent H-2B filing histories
Maryland's seafood processing, landscaping, and resort hospitality sectors file H-2B petitions repeatedly each year. Employers with a multi-year filing history are more likely to have an established sponsorship process and understand what the visa requires from both sides.
Understand the cap and filing windows
H-2B has a congressionally set annual cap of 66,000 visas split between two half-year periods. Maryland employers filing for summer peak season compete in the same April 1 start-date window, so positions fill quickly once petitions are approved.
Search for H-2B roles on platforms built for visa sponsorship
General job boards rarely filter by visa type. Migrate Mate lets you search specifically for H-2B sponsorship opportunities in Maryland, saving time you'd otherwise spend manually researching which employers are open to sponsoring international workers.
Look beyond the Baltimore metro for higher sponsorship density
While Baltimore has H-2B activity in hospitality and grounds maintenance, rural and coastal Maryland, including Dorchester County and Worcester County, has a higher concentration of seafood and tourism employers that regularly sponsor H-2B workers each season.
Verify the employer has a certified Labor Condition Application
H-2B requires a certified temporary labor certification from the Department of Labor before a petition is filed with USCIS. When evaluating Maryland employers, confirm they have prior H-2B certification history, which signals they understand the legal requirements involved.

Which industries in Maryland sponsor the most H-2B visas?
Seafood processing, seasonal hospitality, and landscaping account for the largest share of H-2B visa sponsorship in Maryland. Crab processing houses along the Chesapeake Bay and Eastern Shore are particularly active filers, alongside Ocean City resort and hotel operators and grounds maintenance companies serving the Baltimore and Washington, D.C. suburbs.
Which cities in Maryland have the most H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Ocean City has the highest concentration of H-2B sponsorship activity in Maryland, driven by its large seasonal resort and hospitality sector. The Eastern Shore, particularly areas around Crisfield and Cambridge, is a hub for seafood processing sponsorship. The Baltimore metro also has H-2B activity in landscaping and amusement and recreation services.
What types of roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship in Maryland?
H-2B covers temporary non-agricultural work, so qualifying roles in Maryland include crab pickers and seafood processing workers, hotel housekeeping and front desk staff, ride operators and amusement park attendants, groundskeepers and landscaping crew members, and food service workers at seasonal venues. These roles must be seasonal, intermittent, or tied to a one-time need.
How do I find H-2B jobs in Maryland that offer visa sponsorship?
Start by using Migrate Mate, which filters job listings specifically by visa type so you can find Maryland employers actively sponsoring H-2B workers without sorting through listings that don't offer sponsorship. You can also review DOL OFLC disclosure data, which publishes certified H-2B labor condition applications by employer name, location, and job title, giving you a direct list of Maryland sponsors.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
