Which construction companies sponsor H-2B visas in Maryland?
General contractors and specialty subcontractors operating across Maryland are among the most active H-2B sponsors in construction. Companies with large commercial, government, and infrastructure project portfolios, including firms headquartered in Baltimore and the D.C. metro corridor, have historically filed H-2B Labor Condition Applications. Landscaping and site preparation contractors tied to construction projects also regularly participate in the H-2B program.
Which cities in Maryland have the most construction H-2B sponsorship jobs?
Baltimore leads the state for construction H-2B activity, driven by ongoing commercial development, port infrastructure work, and urban redevelopment projects. The D.C. suburbs, particularly Montgomery County and Prince George's County, also generate significant demand due to proximity to federal construction contracts. Annapolis and the Eastern Shore see seasonal spikes tied to residential and hospitality-related construction.
What types of construction roles typically qualify for H-2B sponsorship in Maryland?
H-2B construction roles in Maryland tend to be manual, trade-based positions that employers demonstrate a temporary need to fill. Common qualifying roles include laborers, concrete finishers, carpenters, painters, and drywall installers. Employers must show the need is seasonal or tied to a specific project period. Professional or managerial construction roles generally do not qualify, as H-2B is designed for temporary nonagricultural workers in labor-intensive positions.
How do I find construction H-2B sponsorship jobs in Maryland?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to search for construction H-2B sponsorship jobs in Maryland. The platform aggregates verified H-2B job listings from employers who have already filed or are actively filing Labor Condition Applications, so you can filter specifically by visa type, state, and industry. This saves time compared to contacting contractors individually, as sponsorship eligibility is already indicated for each listing.
Are there any Maryland-specific considerations for H-2B construction sponsorship?
Maryland employers sponsoring H-2B construction workers must comply with both federal H-2B program requirements and Maryland's prevailing wage laws, which apply to publicly funded construction projects. The state's proximity to federal government facilities means many construction contracts fall under Davis-Bacon Act wage requirements, affecting the wage levels employers must certify. Employers must also demonstrate that qualified U.S. workers were unavailable before the H-2B petition is approved.
What is the prevailing wage for H-2B construction jobs in Maryland?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
