Which companies sponsor visas for data scientists in Massachusetts?
Life sciences companies like Biogen, Moderna, and Vertex Pharmaceuticals are among the most active sponsors for data scientists in Massachusetts, alongside tech-forward firms like Wayfair, MathWorks, and HubSpot. Financial institutions including Fidelity Investments and State Street also file sponsorships regularly. Large healthcare systems such as Mass General Brigham have expanded their data science teams and appeared consistently in Department of Labor LCA filings.
Which visa types are most common for data scientist roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B visa is by far the most common visa for data scientists in Massachusetts, given that the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in a directly related field such as statistics, computer science, or mathematics. Australians may pursue the E-3 visa as an alternative. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT, including STEM OPT extensions of up to 24 months, frequently transition into H-1B visa sponsorship through Massachusetts employers.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most data scientist sponsorship jobs?
Boston and Cambridge together account for the large majority of data scientist sponsorship activity in Massachusetts. Cambridge hosts many biotech and AI research firms alongside MIT and Harvard, which fuel a steady pipeline of international talent. Boston's Seaport and Back Bay districts have dense concentrations of fintech, healthtech, and analytics companies. Burlington and Waltham along the Route 128 corridor are secondary hubs with meaningful sponsorship activity from established technology and defense firms.
How to find data scientist visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international candidates and filters data scientist roles in Massachusetts by visa sponsorship status, so you avoid applying to positions that won't support your immigration needs. The platform surfaces employers with a documented history of sponsoring data scientists in the state, which is especially useful given how competitive the Boston and Cambridge markets are. Filtering by role and location on Migrate Mate significantly narrows the search to actionable opportunities.
Are there any Massachusetts-specific factors that affect data scientist visa sponsorship?
Massachusetts employers sponsoring H-1B workers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements, which are benchmarked to local market rates and tend to be set at higher levels in the Boston metro compared to national averages, reflecting the area's high cost of living. The concentration of research universities including MIT, Harvard, Tufts, and Northeastern creates a dense international graduate pipeline, which means many Massachusetts employers already have established immigration support infrastructure and experience processing H-1B petitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored data scientist jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
