Which companies sponsor visas for field engineers in Massachusetts?
Raytheon Technologies, L3Harris, MKS Instruments, Axcelis Technologies, and various semiconductor equipment firms along Route 128 have documented H-1B sponsorship histories for field engineer roles. Defense contractors around the greater Boston area and Lowell tend to hire field engineers with backgrounds in electrical, mechanical, or systems engineering, and many have established immigration support processes for qualifying candidates.
Which visa types are most common for field engineer roles in Massachusetts?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for field engineers in Massachusetts, as most roles require a bachelor's degree or higher in engineering and meet the specialty occupation standard. Candidates from Australia may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian or Mexican nationals can explore the TN visa under the engineer category. L-1B visas occasionally apply when engineers transfer within a multinational company.
Which cities in Massachusetts have the most field engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boston and its immediate suburbs account for the largest share of field engineer sponsorship activity in Massachusetts. Waltham, Lowell, and Andover are notable hubs due to concentrations of defense, semiconductor, and industrial technology employers. Cambridge draws field engineers tied to biotech and research equipment firms. Springfield and Worcester see smaller but consistent demand from manufacturing and utility infrastructure companies.
How to find field engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Massachusetts?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, making it easier to identify field engineer positions in Massachusetts without sifting through listings that exclude international candidates. You can search by role and state to surface relevant openings across defense, semiconductor, and industrial sectors. Migrate Mate also provides context on visa pathways commonly used for field engineering roles.
Are there state-specific considerations for field engineers seeking sponsorship in Massachusetts?
Massachusetts has a high concentration of defense and government-contracted employers, and some field engineer roles require security clearances that can complicate or effectively limit sponsorship for non-citizens. Employers along Route 128 and in the greater Lowell area tend to have more established immigration pipelines, partly due to proximity to MIT, UMass Lowell, and Northeastern University, which supply a steady flow of internationally trained engineering graduates familiar to local HR and legal teams.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored field engineer jobs in Massachusetts?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
