Which companies sponsor visas for machine learning roles in Minnesota?
UnitedHealth Group and Optum are among the most active sponsors for machine learning roles in Minnesota, particularly for AI applied to healthcare data. Target sponsors ML engineers working on recommendation systems and supply chain optimization. 3M and Medtronic hire for applied ML in manufacturing and medical devices. Mayo Clinic, headquartered in Rochester, also sponsors for clinical AI and research-focused machine learning positions.
Which visa types are most common for machine learning roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa for machine learning professionals in Minnesota, as ML engineer and data scientist roles consistently qualify as specialty occupations requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, statistics, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability in AI research may pursue the O-1A. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa, which follows a similar process to the H-1B visa but bypasses the lottery.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most machine learning sponsorship jobs?
The Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area accounts for the overwhelming majority of machine learning sponsorship jobs in Minnesota. Minneapolis hosts corporate headquarters for Target, U.S. Bank, and several healthcare and insurance firms with active AI teams. St. Paul adds government-adjacent tech and nonprofit health organizations. Rochester is a secondary hub driven by Mayo Clinic's expanding machine learning and clinical informatics programs.
How to find machine learning visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters machine learning roles in Minnesota by visa sponsorship history, so you're not sorting through listings from employers who don't sponsor. You can search by job title, state, and visa type to surface relevant openings at companies like UnitedHealth Group, Target, and 3M that have documented H-1B sponsorship activity in the state.
Are there any state-specific considerations for machine learning sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Minnesota's machine learning hiring is heavily shaped by its healthcare and insurance industries, which means many roles require familiarity with regulated data environments like HIPAA-compliant systems. The University of Minnesota produces a significant pipeline of ML talent, which means employer expectations around graduate credentials are high. Prevailing wage requirements for H-1B petitions are tied to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metropolitan statistical area for most roles, so location within the metro matters for employer wage compliance.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored machine learning jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
