Which companies sponsor visas for machine learning engineers in Minnesota?
UnitedHealth Group, 3M, Target, Cargill, and Medtronic are among the largest Minnesota-based employers with histories of sponsoring H-1B visas for machine learning and data science roles. Several mid-size fintech and healthtech companies in the Twin Cities metro also file sponsorship petitions regularly. Reviewing Department of Labor LCA disclosure data for Minnesota employers is a reliable way to identify active sponsors.
Which visa types are most common for machine learning engineer roles in Minnesota?
The H-1B is by far the most common visa category for machine learning engineers in Minnesota, given that the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, statistics, or a related field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. Candidates from Canada or Mexico may qualify for TN visa status under the USMCA. Those with extraordinary ability in AI or ML research may explore the O-1A category.
Which cities in Minnesota have the most machine learning engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Minneapolis-Saint Paul metro accounts for the vast majority of machine learning engineer sponsorship activity in Minnesota. Minneapolis hosts corporate headquarters and tech offices for major employers, while Saint Paul adds additional enterprise and government-adjacent roles. Rochester has a smaller but notable presence driven by Mayo Clinic, which hires ML engineers for healthcare AI research and has a history of sponsoring technical talent.
How to find machine learning engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Minnesota?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international job seekers and filters machine learning engineer roles in Minnesota by visa sponsorship history, so you can focus on employers who have filed petitions before rather than guessing. Because sponsorship willingness varies widely even within the same industry, using a platform that surfaces verified sponsoring employers for ML roles in Minnesota saves significant time during your search.
Are there any Minnesota-specific factors machine learning engineers should know about when seeking visa sponsorship?
Minnesota's strongest sponsoring industries for ML engineers are healthcare technology, retail analytics, and agriculture technology, reflecting the state's anchor employers. The University of Minnesota produces a significant pipeline of ML talent, which means competition for local roles can be high. Employers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements when sponsoring, and those wages are benchmarked to the Minneapolis-Saint Paul metropolitan area for most positions, which reflects a high-cost professional market.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored machine learning engineer jobs in Minnesota?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
