Lead AI Engineer
Overview:
This role seeks an established AI engineering subject-matter expert who applies deep domain and technical expertise to drive critical business outcomes.
In this role, you will lead the design and deployment of complex, production-grade agentic systems—particularly multi-agent, multi-tool solutions that automate and enhance how the Services business operates.
You will be responsible to build intelligent agents capable of reasoning, planning, and safely invoking tools; managing memory; and continuously improving through systematic evaluation and feedback.
About D&PE AI Solutions Team:
The Data & Productivity Engineering (D&PE) organization builds the data infrastructure, automation, and AI solutions that enable data-driven decision-making and scalable, efficient business processes across the Services division.
Within D&PE, the AI Solutions team focuses specifically on improving productivity and employee experience by combining modern AI capabilities with existing and emerging data assets and platforms.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, and operate high-impact AI solutions that address complex business problems while improving productivity, efficiency, employee experience, and cost outcomes across the Services organization.
- Deeply understand requestor needs, impacted personas, underlying business processes, and jobs-to-be-done to recommend the most effective solution approach. Evaluate whether a given request is best addressed through agentic AI, process redesign, tactical automation, or improved documentation and governance.
- Define and enforce safe, scalable tool-use patterns for agentic systems, including structured outputs, robust error handling, permissioning and auditability, guardrails, and appropriate human-in-the-loop (HITL) approval workflows for sensitive actions.
- Own production observability and operational readiness for agentic solutions, including trace capture, cost and token telemetry, latency and reliability monitoring, and incident response for agent failures.
- Drive continuous improvement in system effectiveness, safety, and efficiency by defining clear success metrics such as task success rate, human intervention rate, policy violations, cost per task, and latency, and expanding evaluation coverage over time.
All About You:
- Agentic System Architecture: Hands-on experience designing multi-agent systems, goal decomposition and planning, tool and function calling, context engineering, harness design, memory and retrieval patterns, evaluations, etc.
- AI Platforms and Tooling: Practical experience with platforms such as Copilot Studio, Azure AI Foundry, Salesforce Agentforce, and Microsoft Power Platform.
- Production Engineering: Strong background in scalable deployment architectures, high-availability runtime design, failure handling, and overall operational excellence.
- Cross-Functional Leadership: Proven ability to collaborate with platform, security, governance, and business stakeholders; clearly communicate trade-offs; and drive adoption of shared standards and best practices.
- Communication and Stakeholder Management: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable guidance for diverse audiences.

Which companies sponsor visas for AI engineers in Missouri?
Missouri has a mix of enterprise technology companies and large corporations that have sponsored visas for AI engineers. World Wide Technology, headquartered in St. Louis, has an active technology hiring program. Mastercard's Kansas City operations include data and AI roles. Healthcare IT companies like Cerner (now Oracle Health) and Express Scripts also have a history of sponsoring skilled technical workers through H-1B visa and similar visa categories.
Which visa types are most common for AI engineer roles in Missouri?
The H-1B is the most common visa for AI engineers in Missouri, as the role typically qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, artificial intelligence, or a related field. Candidates with advanced degrees may also see employers pursuing the EB-2 or EB-2 NIW pathway. Australians may find E-3 visas available with qualifying Missouri employers as well.
Which cities in Missouri have the most AI engineer sponsorship jobs?
St. Louis and Kansas City account for the large majority of AI engineer visa sponsorship opportunities in Missouri. St. Louis benefits from a concentration of healthcare IT, financial technology, and defense contractors, while Kansas City has a growing fintech and enterprise software presence. Columbia, home to the University of Missouri, produces AI talent and hosts some research-adjacent employer activity, though its commercial market is smaller.
How to find ai engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Missouri?
Migrate Mate is built specifically to help international job seekers find visa sponsorship roles, including AI engineer positions in Missouri. Filtering by state and role on Migrate Mate surfaces employers who have actively sponsored work visas, saving time compared to manually researching each company. This is particularly useful in Missouri, where sponsorship-willing employers are concentrated in a few cities and industries rather than spread evenly across the state.
Are there state-specific considerations for AI engineers pursuing sponsorship in Missouri?
Missouri does not have state-level visa programs, so federal categories like H-1B apply uniformly. One relevant factor is that Missouri's cost of living is below the national average, which affects the prevailing wage calculations the Department of Labor uses for Labor Condition Applications. Employers must still meet federally mandated prevailing wage levels for the specific role and location, and AI engineering roles generally fall into higher wage tiers regardless of local cost adjustments.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai engineer jobs in Missouri?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
