Micron Technology is a world leader in innovating memory and storage solutions that accelerate the transformation of information into intelligence, inspiring the world to learn, communicate and advance faster than ever.
As a Senior Applied AI Engineer at Micron, you will apply advanced techniques and theories from mathematics, statistics, semiconductor physics, materials science, and information technology to uncover meaningful patterns in complex data—developing predictive models, actionable insights, and scalable solutions that drive business impact.
You will partner with experienced Data Scientists, Data Engineers, Business Area Engineers, and UX teams to identify key questions and opportunities for data analysis, tool improvement, and new solution development. In this role, you will design and build software programs, algorithms, and automated processes to cleanse, integrate, and evaluate large datasets from multiple disparate sources. You will also have significant opportunities to lead exploratory research and develop innovative AI-driven solutions from the ground up.
Responsibilities
- Develop and deploy AI/ML solutions to support semiconductor product development, validation, yield optimization, and manufacturing efficiency.
- Design, code, and maintain software programs, algorithms, and automated pipelines to cleanse, integrate, and analyze large, unstructured datasets from multiple disparate sources.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with subject matter experts across engineering, product, and service teams to understand domain challenges and translate them into data science solutions.
- Identify and communicate actionable insights from large data and metadata sources to product, service, and business stakeholders through clear analysis, visualization, and presentation.
- Drive exploratory research and innovation, staying current on the latest advancements in AI, machine learning, and data science and applying them to solve complex semiconductor problems.
- Support and improve existing tools and workflows by identifying opportunities for automation, optimization, and enhanced analytics.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Physics, or a related field with 5+ years of relevant experience; OR a Master's degree with 2+ years of experience; OR a PhD with relevant academic or industry experience in data science and/or the semiconductor industry.
- Demonstrated track record of building and launching end-to-end data science solutions, including data engineering, machine learning algorithm development, UI/UX integration, and ML Ops.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python or R for data analysis, modeling, and automation.
- Strong communication skills — excellent written and verbal English-language communication and presentation abilities, with the capacity to convey technical findings to both technical and non-technical audiences.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Semiconductor industry experience is strongly preferred; experience in the memory sector is highly desirable.
- Expertise with Large Language Models (LLMs), including fine-tuning, prompt engineering, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and evaluation of model performance.
- Familiarity with agentic AI systems — designing, deploying, or integrating autonomous agents capable of reasoning, planning, and executing tasks across complex workflows.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset, a passion for teaching others about data science, and a continuous drive to learn and adopt new techniques and technologies.

Which companies sponsor visas for AI engineers in Idaho?
Micron Technology in Boise is one of the most active H-1B visa sponsors in Idaho, regularly filing for software and AI-related roles. Clearwater Analytics, also headquartered in Boise, has sponsored visas for engineering positions. HP Inc. and smaller fintech and data analytics startups in the Treasure Valley have also filed LCAs for AI and machine learning engineer roles in recent years.
Which visa types are most common for AI engineer roles in Idaho?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for AI engineers in Idaho, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field. Candidates with extraordinary ability may pursue the O-1A. Australians may qualify for the E-3 visa, and Canadian or Mexican nationals may explore TN visa status under the USMCA software engineer classification.
How to find ai engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Idaho?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically for roles where employers have a demonstrated history of visa sponsorship, so you can focus on AI engineer positions in Idaho without sifting through companies that won't sponsor. Search by role and state on Migrate Mate to surface openings at Boise-area employers like Micron Technology and Clearwater Analytics that have active LCA filings for technical positions.
Which cities in Idaho have the most AI engineer sponsorship jobs?
Boise accounts for the vast majority of AI engineer sponsorship activity in Idaho. The Treasure Valley, which includes Nampa and Meridian, hosts a concentration of tech employers and is where most LCA filings for AI and machine learning roles originate. Idaho Falls has a smaller but growing presence tied to national laboratory and energy tech work at the Idaho National Laboratory.
Are there any Idaho-specific considerations for AI engineers seeking visa sponsorship?
Idaho's tech sector is still maturing compared to larger hubs, so the total volume of sponsoring employers is smaller. However, Boise State University produces a pipeline of AI and data science graduates, and some employers have established relationships with that program. The Department of Labor prevailing wage determinations for AI engineer roles in Idaho reflect local market rates, which differ from those in higher-cost metros and factor into LCA compliance for sponsoring employers.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai engineer jobs in Idaho?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
