Which companies sponsor visas for AI engineers in North Carolina?
Several large employers in North Carolina have documented H-1B visa sponsorship histories for AI and machine learning roles. SAS Institute in Cary, Red Hat and Cisco in the Research Triangle Park area, and Lenovo's North American headquarters in Morrisville are notable examples. Charlotte-based financial institutions including Bank of America and Wells Fargo also sponsor AI engineers, particularly for applied machine learning and data science functions.
Which visa types are most common for AI engineer roles in North Carolina?
The H-1B is the most common visa for AI engineers in North Carolina, as software and machine learning roles typically qualify as specialty occupations requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant field. Candidates already in the U.S. on F-1 OPT or STEM OPT extension often transition to H-1B sponsorship. The O-1A is an option for engineers with demonstrated exceptional ability, though the documentation requirements are significantly higher.
Which cities in North Carolina have the most AI engineer sponsorship jobs?
The Research Triangle area, covering Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill, accounts for the largest concentration of AI engineering sponsorship activity in the state, driven by Research Triangle Park, three major research universities, and a dense tech and biotech cluster. Charlotte is the second most active market, particularly in fintech and banking AI. Morrisville and Cary, adjacent to RTP, also have meaningful sponsorship activity from enterprise software and hardware firms.
How to find ai engineer visa sponsorship jobs in North Carolina?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse AI engineer roles in North Carolina without manually screening each employer. The platform surfaces positions from companies with active sponsorship histories in the state. Given how concentrated North Carolina's AI hiring is in the Research Triangle and Charlotte, filtering by those metro areas on Migrate Mate will return the most relevant results for international candidates.
Are there state-specific factors AI engineers should know about the North Carolina job market?
North Carolina's AI engineering market benefits from proximity to NC State, Duke, and UNC Chapel Hill, which feed a steady pipeline of graduate talent and maintain research partnerships with local employers. This university connection means many sponsoring companies are already familiar with F-1 OPT-to-H-1B transitions. Research Triangle Park hosts over 300 companies, including several with dedicated AI and machine learning teams, making it one of the more internationally experienced hiring environments in the Southeast.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai engineer jobs in North Carolina?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
