INTRODUCTION
Design and build the knowledge infrastructure that powers Gallup's most ambitious AI initiatives.
As an AI research scientist at Gallup, you will shape AI systems built on some of the richest behavioral datasets in the world. If you bring the rigor of a researcher and the instincts of a systems thinker, and you want to design what doesn't yet exist, you'll thrive in Gallup Labs.
About Gallup Labs
Gallup Labs is the internal research and incubation engine at Gallup, where the world's most important questions about human behavior meet at the intersection of research and technology. We work on problems that don't have clear road maps: building novel knowledge architectures from decades of behavioral data, designing AI systems that surface talent signals and prototyping the next generation of human-centered intelligence tools for a variety of markets.
- Design, prototype and evaluate applied AI systems for knowledge representation, retrieval and agentic reasoning
- Build knowledge architectures that combine knowledge graphs, vector databases, RAG pipelines and hybrid retrieval approaches for behavioral and scientific data
- Own core retrieval infrastructure, including ontology design, schema design, embeddings, indexing, LLM-based extraction, entity resolution, graph storage and query patterns
- Translate ambiguous research questions into clear technical approaches, experiments and working systems
- Create evaluation frameworks for reasoning quality, retrieval accuracy, scalability and real-world impact
- Partner with researchers, product leaders and technologists to integrate knowledge systems into larger AI workflows and communicate architectural decisions clearly
- Stay current on applied AI research and identify techniques that can strengthen Gallup's AI capabilities
What Makes You Stand Out
- Entrepreneurial mindset: You are relentlessly curious about what could exist, spot unmet needs and take ownership of turning technical possibility into systems that create measurable value.
- Systems thinking: You instinctively see how technical components interact, anticipate failure modes and design and test architectures that are resilient and adaptable.
- Architectural creativity: You evaluate trade-offs across graph, vector and hybrid systems and are energized by inventing new combinations when standard approaches fall short.

- Strong hands-on experience with knowledge graphs, including ontology and schema design, extraction pipelines, graph storage and traversal
- Experience using LLMs for structured extraction of entities, relations and attributes
- Experience designing advanced retrieval systems and evaluating reasoning and extraction quality
- Strong Python skills and fluency with modern AI development stacks such as LangChain, LangGraph or LlamaIndex
- A commitment to working on-site at Gallup's Omaha office at least three days per week
Preferred
- Experience turning research ideas into production-ready AI systems

Which companies sponsor visas for AI data engineers in Nebraska?
Omaha-based employers with established tech and data operations are the most active sponsors. Union Pacific, Mutual of Omaha, PayPal (which has a significant Omaha presence), and First Data have historically filed H-1B visa petitions for data and engineering roles. Larger healthcare and financial services firms in Nebraska are generally more likely to have immigration infrastructure in place than smaller startups.
Which visa types are most common for AI data engineers in Nebraska?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for AI data engineers in Nebraska, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, or a related field. Candidates with Canadian or Mexican citizenship may qualify for the TN visa under the USMCA. Those with exceptional publication records or industry recognition may explore the O-1A category.
Which cities in Nebraska have the most AI data engineer sponsorship jobs?
Omaha is by far the primary hub for AI data engineer sponsorship activity in Nebraska, driven by its concentration of Fortune 500 companies, financial services firms, and logistics technology employers. Lincoln sees some demand, particularly from employers tied to the University of Nebraska ecosystem. Outside these two cities, sponsorship opportunities are limited given the smaller employer base.
How to find ai data engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Nebraska?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship eligibility, making it straightforward to search for AI data engineer roles in Nebraska without sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. You can filter by state and role type to see active openings from Nebraska employers who have indicated willingness to sponsor. This saves significant time compared to manually screening general job postings.
Are there state-specific considerations for AI data engineers pursuing sponsorship in Nebraska?
Nebraska does not have a state income tax exemption or special tech visa program, so federal H-1B prevailing wage requirements apply in full. Employers must pay the Department of Labor prevailing wage for the Omaha or Lincoln metro area, which is determined by the specific SOC code used for the role. AI data engineer positions are typically classified under computer and information research scientists or software developers, affecting the applicable wage determination.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored ai data engineer jobs in Nebraska?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
