Which companies sponsor visas for civil project engineers in New Jersey?
Engineering and infrastructure firms with a strong New Jersey presence are the most active sponsors. WSP, AECOM, Jacobs, Parsons, and Stantec regularly file H-1B visa petitions for civil engineering roles. Public agencies like NJ Transit and the New Jersey Department of Transportation also hire civil project engineers, though sponsorship availability varies by agency and project cycle.
Which visa types are most common for civil project engineer roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B visa is the most common path for civil project engineers in New Jersey, as the role qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring at least a bachelor's degree in civil engineering or a closely related field. Canadian and Mexican engineers may qualify for the TN visa under the NAFTA/USMCA engineers category, which can be a more straightforward option when applicable.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most civil project engineer sponsorship jobs?
Newark, Parsippany, and Trenton see the highest concentration of civil project engineer hiring tied to transportation, water infrastructure, and state government projects. Woodbridge and Mount Laurel also have active engineering offices from national firms. Proximity to New York City and Philadelphia means some roles are based in New Jersey but service multi-state project portfolios.
How to find civil project engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically to civil project engineer roles where employers are open to visa sponsorship, saving you from sifting through postings that exclude international candidates. For New Jersey, you can narrow results by location to find opportunities across Newark, Parsippany, Trenton, and surrounding areas. Migrate Mate also covers roles across major infrastructure and engineering firms active in the state.
Are there any state-specific factors civil project engineers should know about sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey's heavy investment in NJ Transit's capital program, the Portal Bridge replacement, and ongoing EPA-mandated water infrastructure upgrades creates consistent demand for civil project engineers. Many roles require PE licensure or documented progress toward it, which can strengthen an H-1B petition. Rutgers and NJIT also feed engineering talent pipelines that some employers are already familiar sponsoring through OPT-to-H-1B transitions.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored civil project engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
