INTRODUCTION
Optomi, in partnership with a leading financial services company, is seeking a Lead Software Engineer to fulfill a contract-to-hire opportunity for a client based in Jersey City, NJ. As a Lead Software Engineer, you will serve as a senior hands-on contributor within an agile engineering team focused on building and enhancing customer-facing applications in a modern cloud environment. This role is heavily weighted toward front-end development, with approximately 60–70% of the work centered around building modern UI components and experiences using React and/or Angular. The ideal candidate will have a strong UI engineering background while also bringing enough full stack knowledge to build basic APIs, contribute to backend services, and operate effectively within a Java Spring Boot AWS ecosystem. This is not a purely architectural role. The team is looking for someone who can independently lead modules, contribute to design discussions, mentor junior engineers, and remain deeply hands-on in development.

- Strong hands-on experience with React and/or Angular development

Which companies sponsor visas for lead software engineers in New Jersey?
Consistent H-1B visa sponsors for lead software engineer roles in New Jersey include Cognizant, Tata Consultancy Services, Johnson & Johnson, Prudential Financial, and Verizon. Enterprise technology firms and financial services companies headquartered in the state file a significant share of senior engineering petitions. Pharma and biotech companies around Princeton and the Route 1 corridor are also active sponsors for engineers building clinical and data infrastructure.
Which visa types are most common for lead software engineer roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the primary visa category used to sponsor lead software engineers in New Jersey, as the role consistently qualifies as a specialty occupation requiring a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science or a related field. L-1A and L-1B visas appear for intracompany transferees at multinationals with New Jersey offices. Candidates with extraordinary ability may pursue the O-1 visa, though it requires substantial documented achievement.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most lead software engineer sponsorship jobs?
Jersey City accounts for a large share of senior engineering sponsorship activity, driven by financial services firms with offices directly across from Manhattan. Newark, Parsippany, and Basking Ridge are active hubs for telecom and insurance technology employers. The Princeton and New Brunswick corridor concentrates pharma-adjacent engineering roles at companies like Johnson & Johnson and smaller biotech firms. Edison and Iselin also see meaningful volume from IT services companies.
How to find lead software engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate filters job listings specifically by visa sponsorship availability, so you can browse lead software engineer openings in New Jersey without sorting through roles that won't support international candidates. The platform surfaces positions from employers with documented H-1B sponsorship history in the state, which is particularly useful given how many New Jersey postings come from IT services firms, financial institutions, and pharma-tech companies that hire at the senior engineering level regularly.
Are there any state-specific considerations for lead software engineers seeking sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey employers filing H-1B petitions for lead software engineers must meet Department of Labor prevailing wage requirements for the specific county where the role is based, and wages in Jersey City and Parsippany reflect the high cost of the greater New York metro area. New Jersey's university ecosystem, including Rutgers and Princeton, generates a notable STEM talent pipeline, which means employers in the state are generally familiar with OPT-to-H-1B transitions for engineering candidates already working there.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored lead software engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
