Which companies sponsor visas for principal engineers in New Jersey?
Johnson & Johnson, Cognizant, Comcast Technology Solutions, Siemens, and Prudential Financial are among the New Jersey employers with a consistent history of H-1B visa filings for senior engineering roles. Major pharma companies headquartered in the state, including Merck and Bristol Myers Squibb, also sponsor principal engineers, particularly in software infrastructure and data engineering functions supporting R&D operations.
Which visa types are most common for principal engineer roles in New Jersey?
The H-1B is the most common visa category for principal engineers in New Jersey, given that the role typically requires a bachelor's degree or higher in computer science, software engineering, or a related field, satisfying the specialty occupation standard. Candidates with extraordinary ability or sustained national recognition may qualify for the O-1A. Those with advanced degrees may also explore the EB-2 immigrant pathway through employer-sponsored PERM filings.
Which cities in New Jersey have the most principal engineer sponsorship jobs?
Jersey City and Newark lead in volume, driven by proximity to New York City financial institutions and major tech employers. The Route 1 corridor, spanning New Brunswick, Princeton, and Bridgewater, is a strong hub for pharma-adjacent engineering roles. Parsippany and Basking Ridge also see consistent hiring at the principal level, largely from telecommunications and enterprise software companies with New Jersey headquarters.
How to find principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs in New Jersey?
Migrate Mate is built specifically for international engineers seeking visa sponsorship in the U.S. You can filter by state and role to see principal engineer positions in New Jersey where employers have an active sponsorship history. This removes the guesswork of identifying which companies are willing to sponsor, which matters significantly at the principal level where sponsorship decisions are often discretionary and role-dependent.
Are there state-specific factors that affect principal engineer sponsorship in New Jersey?
New Jersey's concentration of pharma, financial services, and telecommunications employers shapes sponsorship norms at the principal level. Employers in these industries frequently work with large immigration law firms and have established H-1B workflows, making sponsorship more structured than at smaller companies. The state's proximity to several major research universities, including Rutgers and Princeton, also creates a steady pipeline of candidates that employers in the region are experienced in sponsoring.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal engineer jobs in New Jersey?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
