Which companies sponsor visas for principal engineers in Washington?
Microsoft and Amazon are the largest sponsors for principal engineer roles in Washington, given their global headquarters in Redmond and Seattle respectively. Other active sponsors include Google, Salesforce, Zillow, Expedia, and T-Mobile, all of which maintain significant engineering offices in the Seattle metro. Smaller cloud and SaaS companies in the region also sponsor, though volume varies by hiring cycle.
Which visa types are most common for principal engineer roles in Washington?
The H-1B visa is the most common visa category for principal engineers in Washington, as software and systems engineering roles at this seniority level consistently qualify as specialty occupations under USCIS standards. The L-1A and L-1B are also common at companies like Microsoft and Amazon, which transfer senior engineers from international offices. High-achieving candidates may also qualify for the O-1A or EB-1A based on their technical contributions.
Which cities in Washington have the most principal engineer sponsorship jobs?
Seattle and Redmond account for the majority of principal engineer sponsorship activity in Washington. Bellevue is also significant, with a growing cluster of tech companies headquartered or expanding there. Kirkland has seen increased hiring activity through Amazon and Google satellite offices. Outside the Eastside corridor, Olympia and Spokane have limited principal-level engineering sponsorship opportunities compared to the Seattle metro.
How to find principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington?
Migrate Mate is the most direct way to find principal engineer visa sponsorship jobs in Washington, with listings filtered specifically by role and state so you're not sifting through positions that don't offer sponsorship. Because principal engineer openings are senior-level and move quickly at companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Expedia, checking Migrate Mate regularly gives you an accurate view of which employers are actively hiring and sponsoring at this level in Washington.
Are there any Washington-specific considerations for principal engineer visa sponsorship?
Washington has no state income tax, which affects prevailing wage calculations and overall compensation benchmarking used in H-1B Labor Condition Applications. The Department of Labor's prevailing wage determinations for principal engineers in the Seattle metro reflect one of the highest wage levels in the country, meaning sponsoring employers must meet a high wage floor. Washington's concentration of large tech employers also means many H-1B petitions filed here are subject to the additional Asylum Program Office fee applicable to larger companies.
What is the prevailing wage for sponsored principal engineer jobs in Washington?
U.S. employers sponsoring a visa must pay at least the prevailing wage, which is what workers in the same role, area, and experience level typically earn. The Department of Labor sets this rate to make sure companies aren't hiring foreign workers simply because they'd accept lower pay than a U.S. worker. It varies by job title, location, and experience. You can look up current prevailing wage rates for any occupation and location using the OFLC Wage Search page.
